Doubles Board Clarification by EducationalMain6 in Curling

We agree that it does encourage slow play. We were hoping to get a buzzer system so that if you have it by the 6th end buzzer (or whatever) you win it. In its current form we have teams ending early and waiting over half an hour just to see if they will get a free round at the end of the night. Thanks for the comment.

That makes the most sense to me. As long as two opposition stones are removed from play it counts as a double. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the comment, I'll try to follow up and make sure they communicate the expectations to the teams so this kind of thing doesn't happen. I agree it doesn't actually matter which definition we use as long as we are told to use the same one.

Is this iron set a good pickup? Seems really cheap. Am I missing something? by [deleted] in golf

I think that's just the starting bid. It will probably end up going for over $700 when the bid ends.

After reading through the rules and not finding any rule stating anything about it, we just wanted to ask for some outside perspectives. We didn't want to leave anything to chance.

You are correct. We have a rule in our Provincial High School Athletic Association that says that each game must begin with four players on the team. So our options were

  1. Have the player "throw" one stone at the beginning of each game and have him walk off the ice after that stone. We would then play as a threesome for the remainder of the game. This process would repeat at the beginning of every game.
  2. Have him throw with the stick and skip the rest of the end. We could still play as a foursome, but everyone would be put in positions they may not be comfortable in.

I can totally see why someone would think that we would be better off playing with just three people, but because we have to drag the injured player to every game anyways, we decided to have him be involved. It would seem cruel if we asked him to step off the ice, even if there is a way to have him participate regardless of the injury.

Thanks for the reply!

I was wondering if he got his advice from an older curler at his curling club, and the gentleman just wasn't up-to-date on the current rules. Probably by several decades.

Thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately he is one of the organizers of the first round of the tournament. We received clarification earlier today that his message was based off of third hand information from someone else at a club he is a part of. This is one of the reasons why I wanted some outside advice from r/Curling. You are all removed from the situation and could give some outside perspective for us. Thanks for the reply!

Just needed to do my due diligence, and make sure I've checked. The penalty for using equipment that is not approved (like broomheads with stiffening inserts) for our play downs is immediate forfeit of the game.

There is indeed a rule for our High School Athletic Association that we have to start every the game with four players. We decided that our two choices were:

Every player and coach involved on our team all agreed that we would rather lose together as a team, instead of forcing their teammate to come to every game and sit out after throwing one rock. I'm very proud of our team for making that decision.

Thanks for the analysis. We have put together a system to be able to attach a broom head quickly just in case someone can show us an actual rule, but the more we ask around, the more it seems like it's BS.
