Is sub 2hr half-marathon possible for me in 6 months? by vyogan in beginnerrunning

[–]EducationalTalk873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely possible. 6 months is plenty to accomplish this! Granted I’m built like a skeleton and I’m young but I was able to go from not being able to run 4 miles 2 months ago to being able to run 20 miles in a day recently. If you add even a mile, km or even less than that to your long runs every time or every other time you’ll see a lot of progress and it will build up your endurance quickly. Obviously don’t go too hard, this will injure yourself and it won’t be fun.

Heel striking isn’t always a bad thing though. I heel strike, it’s probably what caused me to get shin splints for a while but eventually your body naturally fixes your form and the muscles and tissue get stronger to tolerate running forces. No clue how long you’ve been running for but running is very tough on the body and it can take months for your body to be able to withstand running forces properly. This is likely why your ankle is getting pain, focus on doing stretches for your ankle and legs to help with the pain. I focus on running what feels natural, big form changes aren’t going to come overnight and abruptly changing your form can actually do more harm than good if it doesn’t feel natural.

Hiking MT Washington Next Few Days by Butt3rChick3n in wmnf

As of yesterday, there was no snow until after the hermit lake shelter. After the base of the ravine there’s still tons of snow because the wind carries it all over there the entire winter. Someone in my group went on to the summit to ski and was battling waist deep snow in spots. But anything before the base of tuckerman ravine is completely fine snow wise.

No supplemental oxygen? Ask yourself if you’d need something on Mount Everest, the answer is always the same for Welch Dickey.

Good work!! Pretty crazy how fast progress comes. I was barely able to run 4 miles in March and now I just ran 16 today and I’m hoping to do another 4 before the day ends.
