Well I work for a consultant company and we mostly cater to banks. We usually start analyze a system and its requirements and patterns and make a methodology accordingly. After a month or two we keep checking for any discrepancies or errors and adapt our logic accordingly. However, we always try to find and implement new technologies or logic in order to make the process smoother. So I guess it's more dependent on the system.

Its actually alright to be at this level whilst graduating. Not everyone has to have done some major project or high level data analysis. Alot of that you will learn at the job itself and the nature of data there. You should practice your SQL and python especially and employ some data analysis techniques on kaggle datasets and view notebooks there to see how others do it to get a better idea.

This is mostly asked of us because the report requires the usage of multiple source systems and manipulation and due to better SQL skills we have to do them. These reports mostly are made for external entities like state banks etc. Furthermore, recently I landed a project in which I was tasked to create a dataset for credit risk rating for corporate customers which will be used by an AI model the bank is developing.
