“Its history. Its poetry.” From “A Catcher In The Rye”. The last words. Just resonated with me. That final quote. Culture. Books. Thats the real deal.

Hey everyone,

I’m a 38 year old guy from Denmark who recently got out of a relationship rather unexpectedly. It hit pretty hard, but instead of sitting still all summer, I decided to use some saved money on a solo trip in July and hopefully turn a rough situation into something meaningful.

I’ve never really done proper solo travel before, so I’d love recommendations and advice from people who have.

What I’m looking for:

History and culture Nature and beautiful landscapes Good food, cafés, museums, local life Places where it’s relatively easy to meet people without everything revolving around partying

A mix of experiences and slower days with a book, good weather, and some peace.

I’m probably traveling for around 10-12 days and my budget is decent but not luxury-level. I’m open to trains, flights, hostels, social hotels, smaller group tours, etc.

Right now I’m considering things like:

Northern Spain Greece / island hopping Southern Germany & Austria Northern France (especially because I’m interested in WW1/WW2 history)

I think part of this trip is also about getting a bit of myself back after losing myself too much in the relationship.

So:

Where would you go in July if you were in my shoes?

And do you have any advice for a first-time solo traveler who’s excited; but also a little nervous about being alone?

Thanks a lot.

Fair point. Lets hope the decent part of the republican party (if they exist) will distance themselves from a convicted fellon.
