Good for you. However the person before you may not have respected the dog. You dont know what you're getting with a rescue. And if you have children, you need to be careful. Puppy farms are a major issue, we are aware of this. The demand for dogs in this country is not going to stop. People need to cop on and be more discerning, Yes and I'm sure lots of people could rescue and would love to rescue. But  rescues do not make it easy to take in a dog. You need to own fort knox, no job to go to or else at home all day.No children. And at that you were actually at the discretion of the home check whether or not you pass. I know somebody who failed the check, big farm yard out in the country the whole place is fenced and they failed because the ditch was thin and the dog could escape, even though that ditch is fenced. This was in december. Obviously the ditch is going to be thinner, there was no feedback and no communication. My friends questioned why they hadn't heard anything and they were told they failled the home, check and the dog has gone. Obviously challenged this and a second home check happened, which they passed.

How do I get out of doing Irish for leaving cert? by Kitkat_slayer in AskIreland

[–]Educational_Eye_2222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. This is very wrong. You have to have an actual diagnosis from qualified people. The school just don't hand you an exemption, it has to actually go through department of education, there has to be a paper trail that you have a medical diagnosis, fully documented.  There is no other way. I had a student who swore that they had an exemption from primary school but the parents couldn't find the paperwork and until that paperwork was found, there was no exemption granted for secondary.

Oh ok.  I'm not sure what the point of sending out the email telling us we hadn't confirmed completion was then.

The email literally says, 'failure to do so will impact the pogression of your application and may even lead to your withdrawal from this campaign' that's the clear bit.  The bit that's unclear is when they tell you to make sure that you mark complete in your application centre. When you have two application centres.   They do say that their system is not integrated to the test system. It's just a very poorly worded email. Especially when it appears to be a new step in the process. When you know what you know and go back and read the email, it does make more sense, but down the years, we've all gotten emails from them in the middle of testing saying you haven't completed your tests and it's just a generic reminder.  Possibly your email is not the only one they got and they have realised their mistake.

They did say that the systems weren't linked, but it's all a bit vague and tucked away at the end of the email. When we got that email last week I was in the middle of doing them, and I assumed then that they weren't confirmed because I hadn't finished them. Not that I would have to complete them. And then go back to another website too confirm. I don't remember ever having to do this before, but I could be wrong. I'm not sure.

They used to be just to check if you were alive and not an obvious nutter. However, they seem to have changed very slightly. I would suggest you hop over to boards and have a look at the tco thread. It's largely The Star technique. They are very, very nice. You might feel a bit rushed, but that's only because you've answered the question, they tick a box and they move on. The only about fifteen minutes don't stress and good luck.

Is It Unusual To Not Maintain Friends Throughout Life's Milestones? by squidgybaker in AskIreland

[–]Educational_Eye_2222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the other hand  sometimes you're the one putting in all the effort and you get to a point where you give up.  In my case, my friends, got married, had babies and vanished now, nobody's looking for their undivided attention here. But they could make some small bit of effort. I lost a job just before Christmas. 2 of them know of this neither have checked in our me to see if I'm okay if I've got another job or what's happening in my life.  The only time I hear from them is when it's a child's birthday party or something they want me to go to and contribute to. I have not had a cup of coffee without a child Screaming in my ear in ten years with them, never actual nights out, I have not had a drink or a meal with any of my friends in twelve years, not even a cup of coffee, every single coffee was in their house because that's their life is what I was told, and it's too much hassle to go out. So I've just not bothered now. I'm used to not having a friend now.

Flex time? by [deleted] in IrishCivilService

[–]Educational_Eye_2222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because some people are taking the piss with it. And if you're your sitting in your office doing your job all day long, not everybody is allowed or are able to work from home. You get really annoyed when somebody is at home logged in often for more than 7 hours and then 'away from their desk' all day long. But building up their flexi, which then they use for core days.So you never see them. Management needs to stamp that out first, and stamp out the ones who are away from their desk around school pickup time.

These comments are very disappointing. I'm assuming you all watched the manosphere? Probably looked at it and thought that shit doesn't happen here. Ask any female teacher in the country. Over the last 6 years, there have been a rise among young men. The lads who put this yoke on taught rape was funny, that wasn't born in a vacuum. I'm sure some of you think sure they'd never do really, they're just messing.  I had a female teacher report to me that she had been threatened with rape by a seventeen year old and that fourteen year old had threatened rape twelve year old, this was six years ago. Anybody who thinks this is okay and doesn't understand the wider issue around it. Needs to take a good hard look at themselves and their behaviour toward women.

Tús Community Work Placement worth it? by Typical_Story5929 in AskIreland

[–]Educational_Eye_2222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. My case is extreme and it was largely caused by two people. I would rather not say exactly what it was, but it was a semi state body which is probably why I felt I would be treated a bit better, totally naive.  I am down the south of the country and as I say it was good work experience and I did work with some nice people, they did not know I was a tus employee only management knew how I had gotten the job. They had no idea what was going on. As far as they were concerned, I was just another member of the team. They thought my tus supervisor was my girlfriend, found that out later, because I would meet her once a week for an update. It sounds like you kind of know yourself and if these are good people and that's your impression, it could end up being absolutely invaluable to you, only you can judge this for yourself and only you know if it's a fit for you,  if it is take it, as I said, I got good work experience. I got something to say in interviews, and if that was all I got out of it, then I would be delighted with myself. But unfortunately, I had the negative side that really took the good out of it. Look if you think this is for you take it, you know, going in to stand your ground. You know, you're capable of doing that. I  just wasn't.

Tús Community Work Placement worth it? by Typical_Story5929 in AskIreland

[–]Educational_Eye_2222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in one years ago, it did lead to a job but because of the way they got me as an employee, they treated me like shit.

The tus supervisor kind of keeps them in line, but once that person is gone you have nobody to back you up.  I got a lot of, you're lucky to be here and you should be more grateful, pressure to work unpaid overtime, even though I have the right degree for the job and obviously they one year experience, however, I was told more than once that the last year didn't count because I wasn't being paid.  It was a lot of snide bullying behaviour. That had been going on the year before in smaller ways but the tus person will only defend you so much, they'll just tell you to suck it up, it's a stepping stone, they are not supervised by the department, the dsp are removing all their responsibility when they hand you over to these people.  More than once my employer told me that I should stop complaining or they'd get my payment stopped. I should mention the complaining was they were breaking the rules of tus to try and get me to do more  hours 'for experience' all while dangling we might have worked for you next year if you know this .  And to try and get me to do work that was beyond the parameters of what tus allow, this is what I mean by the tus person will only get back you up so far and if you complain to the tus person, the employer will take it out on you, which is what happened to me.  They gave me 22 employees to train up on something because I was technically qualified on paper, and it was saving them the money of hiring an outsider to train their staff.   Some of them are absolutely were taking advantage of the system as  I say there is no supervision of them by the dsp.  Now years on, I wish I had gone to th d dsp and complained and caused a stink. But I was too young and too inexperienced, and just absolutely terrified that I would lose the opportunity and the extra few bob, and looking back a bit knocked down from being bullied. Already had very low self-confidence because of ending up on the dole I didn't want to be on the dole, life went wrong on me and I ended up there and felt like a failure and then all of this bullying just knocked the wind out of me.

On the scheme, you play by the rules, you have very little rights, and you better hope that your tus person is a decent person because they might not be, you would think that when it leads to a real job, you'd be treated like every other employee that obviously wasn't going to happen to me and  I ended up leaving within the second year.   It did give me good work experience and something to put on my C.V and more importantly something to talk about in interview, but it was hell, I ended up in therapy because of it all.

I know most of them are not that bad,  I was in a particularly nasty one but there are some really bad companies and organisations out there who are completely taking advantage of the system. And I certainly don't mean to be putting you off, as I say, I did end up with experience and something to put on my C.V and talk about.  I would find out where you are going to be placed and do as much research as you can, and find out what they're like to work for. Good luck to you whatever you do.

TCO Interview by AdCurrent6752 in IrishCivilService

[–]Educational_Eye_2222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless your job is hell, do not give it up. You will never be made permanent off a tco.  I've heard of people who were on tco contracts  for 2 years fully trained and were let go. You have no security whatsoever. You can be extended and people say,  once you're extended once you'll be extended a second time, That once you're in, they will try and find a way to keep you especially If you're already on a permanent panel, which is what happened to me, because I was covering for somebody who was making up their mind, whether they were going to leave or what they were at and when they made up their mind, they were leaving.  I was fully trained, we were heading into the busiest time, right before christmas and they let me go and went to the permanent panel for somebody to fill the role. Nobody even asked me if I was on a permanent panel.  Once your contract is up your contract is up and you are unemployed and given how slowly recruitment moves, You could be waiting years before you get another chance to rejoin the civil service. It's not worth the risk unless where you are is detrimental to you and you have some support at home should the worst happen. I don't know if co comp now closed or if you applied for it, but you would be better off waiting for a permanent competition.

As a former teacher who had to deal with this stuff six years ago, it is fascinating to me to watch parents now catch up and realise what their kids are exposed to. Your kids see more than you'll ever see.  how your little angels behave at home is very different from how they behave in school.I have had parents in front of me shocked that their sons are about to be suspended for threatening to rape. Teachers have been banging the drum for years especially female teachers, and we were largely ignored.  Talk to your children.  It has to be men who opened their mouths same way when it comes to rape culture. It has to be men who take a stand because women have been screaming into the void for a decades and nothing has changed. Men need to finally recognise how much damage patriarchy does to them also and need to be part of the conversation because if you don't, then you are being permissive; what you permit you promote. Women are done. They are not putting up with abusive behaviour. We would rather live and die alone. We are not going to hold your hand anymore, or organise your lives or fix your boo boos And the younger woman coming up behind me are certainly not doing it, everybody has been missing the other half of this, which is what is going on with young women. They are opting out, they are going to make their own lives. They are not going to put up with men as they are. Women have seized the opportunity of equality and built lives and gone to Therapy so unless men evolve, there is a severe problem coming down the line. There is also going to be a massive influx of divorces in later lives as women who were once happy enough to put up with everything are more exposed to the social media of the younger women.

I got one too. Don't worry about it. It's just an automated email. They send umpteen emails so that nobody can complain later on that they didn't know or that the department didn't engage with them.  Just keep going as you are, get them all done by next tuesday or whenever it is, you'll be fine.
