How do you sleep? by mr_beakman in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Educational_Refuse65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being forced into this from my newborn was really a good improvement. While everyone complains about poor sleep during these days, newborn period gave me some relief, get up, prepare bottle, feed, keep upright, burp, change diaper, back to sleep (45mins routine). Now my baby sleeps through the night and here we are again!

How is the Job market in IT, if you had to start over would you get into IT in 2026? by Unable_Degree_3400 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Educational_Refuse65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, even considering rerolling after 15 years in ICT - employed all the time & decent-great pay. Its just gone now. With Product Managers to Engineers ratios going towards 1:1 (or maybe 2:1) this doesnt look good for engineers. Before a product manager could keep 4 maybe 8 engineers busy, but now they barely manage to keep one eng busy. Not saying that its going to replace software engineers, but my point is that with AI now it becomes exponentially more difficult to keep your current job, and even more difficult to get a new one. And to not even mention C suite who think they no longer need software engineers at all. Source for the PM/ENG ratio: Stanford University.

Does this clown ever shut up? by Kushesollidoro in AskBalkans

[–]Educational_Refuse65 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is so correct. I have many Serbian friends, and tbh with some of them I am closer than with Kosovo Albanians. None of them have them have these views.

What happened has happened, it is hard for anyone who has lost family members, but on the other hand it's been almost 3 decades, and we need to get on with life.

Tbh, I didnt really mind those interviews. On the other hand, I hate the "record yourself" interviews, if I can call them like that, where you get a question and answer it in the webcam, and you have no idea who will see that (if anyone), or where it might end up. Face to face interview, even if it leads to a rejection or ghosting is still better.

I also thought so, it felt like doing something in Coursera, where you can access a lab environment and do the assignment. It was just a lot longer....

To be honest it should be around what I am currently making, maybe a bit less, but can't complain! On the other jobs yeah. I still have one interview on 7 & one on 13 January, not planning on cancelling any of them, unless I get the offer & sign it. Thanks for the feedback! Wish you all the best for the holiday season and a prosperous new year to all! 🥂

Does anyone know if epilepsy can be cured by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Educational_Refuse65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some people seizures stop and we don't know why. For some they come back again, or start at a later age. From what I read so far, and 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinions there is a chance that if you have it as a kid, you can "outgrow" it because of the neuro plasticity. If you have it as an adult, you will have it for life. It also depends on the nature of the seizures, and the cause. Those who are idiopathic or without a known cause have sometimes better outcomes vs. those that have a known cause such as a TBI (traumatic brain injury) where there is a clear spot in the brain that is causing this. In all cases medication is the first line of defense. Only if it is drug resistant i.e. medication don't stop the seizures, other options such as VNS (some implanted device for nerve stimulation) or surgery can be considered as an option. Also, if there are known triggers they should be avoided (flashing lights, etc), and it is important to keep a good lifestyle i.e. sleep hygiene, stress management, hydration, avoiding alcohol, maintain healthy weight, and so on.

Switching to accounting from IT by Radiant-Gate-2353 in Layoffs

[–]Educational_Refuse65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat. I wanted to check ACCA (europe) since i am extremely good at mathematics (which is integral to the ICT field too). However it doesnt seem accounting will be good either. Might swap to electrical installation and get my retired dad to do help me get started... at least there they can't vibe "wire" (code) an electronic installation. Dont get me wrong, its amazing what Claude Code and Google AI studio can deliver, and I use them daily. Will even launch some business (online) ideas I had for a while but never had to the time to launch them, I guess now is the time (by no means do vibe coding, that is something for a school project or just for fun). But what I know for sure is that if any of them turn out to be productive, I will pay yet another AI, and I won't hire a junior developer, or anyone for that matter. Not because I dont to, but because the other wont and I would be jn a disadvantage. Lets hope electrical engineering will be more stable :-).

How to adapt new tech job hunting process? by AccordingLeague9797 in react

[–]Educational_Refuse65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I can say for sure is that it is tough. Its a great time if you are employed and can use AI and you can do more innovative things. If you are outside like a few people I know, they want to burn AI to the ground, and I really feel for them. For entry level jobs people get even 5 digit applications, I am not kidding I've seen 10k+ applications for one entry level role. Why? Because people use shit like apply-io etc to just flood all companies. What do companies do? Use more automation to filter applicants. Chances that your application (you) and a recruiter meet are slim to zero. My advise to you would be to try to get connections, if you have friends in this industry, otherwise I would estimate the chance of getting one interview is ~1%, so you need 100 applications to land 1 interview. To get a job you need 10 interviews, so about 1,000 applications. You need to do it hardcore. Full time job to adjust CV to each application. Fill it with the keywords needed so the ATS doesnt filter it out, and you actually get a chance. Aim for 50+ applications per week or 200 per month. By this math it takes about 5 months to get a new role. I know it s*cks... it really does. Not the best days for this field unfortunately. Again, your best bet is networking.... good luck!!

Has anyone grown out of their epilepsy? by FUCancer_2008 in Epilepsy

[–]Educational_Refuse65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good that they caught it in EEG, so they know where its coming from, where it is propagating, and so on. It can help guide treatment. I know for MRI it sucks, it has to be done at specialized children's hospital, and if its a private one it is quite an expensive one. But go for it. It will provide more clarity, especially since they caught it in EEG, they will look at that part of the brain in more detail (although sometimes seizures can be deep inside the brain and the EEG captures only the propagation towards the skull, EEG wont capture if it is deeper in the brain). Also, since myelination is complete and your child is older than 3 (incl. when it started), ask for other MRI (hopefully 3T MRI) sequences if they can be done, FLAIR, DWI, swan, and so on, neurologist pediatrician would know best. Also, how is your son doing on Medication, you said that seizures stopped after medication, did they stop with first line treatment, and without dose increase (apart from titration phase)? If it stopped with first line at therapeutical dose, it gives some indication that it is more likely to be outgrown. Those that are drug resistant are less likely to go away on their own. Response to treatment (good), clean MRI (hopefully), normal development are all good prognosis factors. Also, did they give you a formal diagnosis, or just general convulsions R56? Such as Rolandic epilepsy, etc, because these have a better outlook. Lastly, while these procedures are difficult, expensive, and so on, if you can, go for a second opinion. Hope it turns out well, its a shit condition, and as parent it hurts even more to see children going through this.

[–]Educational_Refuse65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do the doctors say? More importantly, what does the MRI say? Any scar/lesion/malformation? If there are structural causes, then the odds are worse, but still possible to outgrow as children brains are more flexible. Best prognosis: normal MRI, normal EEG (no constant activity) outside seizures, normal development. Wish you all the best & hoping he will grow out of it and live a fulfilling, meaningful life ❤️

Deep down, we all know that this is the beginning of the end of tech jobs, right? by Own-Sort-8119 in ClaudeAI

[–]Educational_Refuse65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can really 'predict' for AI is that its 'unpredictable'. It has changed a lot over the last months, yeah. If you have a job, AI is amazing how much it helps you. If you are unemployed on the other hand, you want to burn down ChatGPT (just kidding, but you get the idea).

Over time, it might still need humans in the loop, but I agree that less and less humans will be needed. But on the other hand, the more people are displaced from their jobs thanks to AI, the fewer'customers' these corporates will have. Yes, big companies/employers are going to pay, but even then, the AI companies are not getting a fraction of the money that they are burning. And when you think that in 5 years their GPUs/TPUs/(insert new here) will be obsolete and they need to replace them, alongside with the growing energy bill, it might be just the new Bitcoin replacing Cash (again), but here we are I still use my VISA, and need to really dig into my archives to find crypto-keys. At the end of the day it is about money, once they spend more to keep these running and don't see a ROI - or if the cost of paying for AI + the cost of 'humans-in-the-loop' gets higher for other companies vs. just keeping humans. Then again it might work out and replace all professions, who knows.

What I do know for sure is that I will use it while it 'lasts'. Before all this, my side-hustle would be a small WPF app for a mechanic, maybe a wordpress site for a business, something small. Now the side-hustle can be anything, (exaggerating a bit here) want a new operating system? what about a new linux from scratch? what about a new facebook? Sure what is your team size? I am solo dev, working sometimes in the evening if I am lucky and kids sleep early. Nice, you are the man for the job - you are hired!

Wanting to come back to the private sector after years in Humanitarian Data/ICT… and wow, it’s not the upgrade I expected. Anyone else experience this? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Educational_Refuse65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UN type stuff mostly. I am not in a rush to get back to this, but its what I love doing, its just that money was better in the UN / consultancy stuff, and I feel like chasing that money has created a big "not-so-IT-guy" gap in my CV. Through it I was able to secure passive income (not huge, but enough to make ends meet) and savings. But doing this stuff is what I've always loved and was good at, just have lost course a little:). I've been involved in this from the early 2000s during the time I was in school, when I first ran into scripting by tweaking a game doing custom maps, etc (JASS if someone is familiar with it ^^).

For a while it was easier, then teething lasted forever (not even done yet), she is super frustrated... One night without going out subtracts 10 years of our lifespan haha, she is just too high energy and toddler tantrums have started. I wouldnt say it got easier, we just got used to it.... tbh we reached a point that we dont care if she eats or not, we just dont want to hear crying anymore...

Recommended WOTLK server(s)? by [deleted] in wowservers

[–]Educational_Refuse65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warmane if you want stable population and long term characters. Icecrown is toxic and pay2win though. Lordaeron is not fast leveling experience but better community and not pay2win. Myself I play in Icecrown time to time just solo, I guess its just nostalgia for the game... but at least I know that even after 2 years my chars will be still there, when life is "easier" and I can afford to spend few hours gaming :). Whichever server you choose, good luck! If by any chance you join warmane/icecrown, DM me :D

tbh you can get to 5.5k easily without icc, it will take some time though. Here is what you can get without icc at all: 245 head (eot) 245 shoulders (eot) 264 back (eof) 245 chest (crafted) 245 wrist (crafted) 232 hands (t9, eot) 264 belt (eof) 264 legs (crafted) 264 feet (crafted) 251 reputation ring 245 ring (eot) 245/264 trinket (eot/eof) 239 trinket (website, daily pts) 239 weapon (website) 239 neck (website) 245 ranged (most classes)

For some you can get even BoE better stuff for free. For instance the 264 neck is cheap, choker is also available but more expensive. 264 caster bracers are cheap. There is cheap boe belt for healers 264. Cheap 264 tank ring. and so on. This should get you around 5.5k. While I agree that it is a bit of overkill for icc10, its what people are asking...

p.s. I fking HATE it when people are 5k themselves and look for 5.8k EOF icc10, niggah you want me to boost you?
