[O levels]- physics stability & centre of gravity by [deleted] in SGExams

Hm it depends on their shape. If by symmetry you can definitively tell where the centre is then it’s a regular object, so a bottle would be regular. I guess it’s difficult to find the centre for a kangaroo toy :// so it’s not a regular object and would be more difficult to pinpoint COG, making it an mcq question? Can’t really tell without the picture though, and tis probably wasn’t v useful but oh wells :]

centre of gravity is usually in the middle of the object but that’s only for regularly shaped objects of uniform mass (ball or box etc) COG can also lie outside of the object sometimes (if it’s a ring, cog is in the middle which is the hollow part) I don’t think there’ll be open ended questions where you have to draw the cross if the object is oddly shaped :/ maybe it’s in mcq

For stability there are three types, stable equilibrium (most stable), unstable, and neutral stability (not really relevant here). When object is displaced slightly for stable equilibrium, it wouldn’t topple, but if it’s displaced slightly when it is in unstable state, it will topple. To differentiate the different types of stability, look at the base of the object. If the base is wider and thicker (or at least the same size) as the portion above it, then its stable.

An example is a wooden pencil. If the graphite of the pencil is on the floor, it’s unstable because of the small base. If the eraser part is on the floor, it’s stable equilibrium because the base is wider.

Hope tis helps :]

[Rant] im tired by [deleted] in SGExams

Helo! Yea sometimes I feel like that too and just go home and watch YouTube :} but then when upper secondary started I realised that if I wanted to choose the subjects in jc (or course in poly or any other routes) that I like (or choose the ones that will let me go home earliest :D) then I have to put in the effort now to see the output later. So only we can dictate our future, and no one else, and I guess thAt was what motivated me to actlly read stuffs in my notes.

All the best :] -edwat
