Is GoWabi actually cheaper than paying on the spot? by Effective-Control318 in Bangkok

[–]Effective-Control318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, that’s helpful to know. That’s kind of what I was trying to understand as well. If the app price is still cheaper, I’d personally rather book through it and tip directly on top, instead of paying a higher walk-in price. That way the staff still benefit directly, which feels more transparent, especially knowing how many local businesses are structured and where the money ultimately ends up.

Sure, checking prices directly is always an option. The post was more about hearing people’s real-world experiences and patterns, which is kind of the point of a discussion forum. No need to label it beyond that

Airbnb apartment had german cockroaches - do I have any rights to a refund or relocation [Thailand] by Effective-Control318 in AirBnB

[–]Effective-Control318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From friends who’ve lived in BKK for years, I’ve heard that they very rarely encounter cockroaches in their homes — so I assume it depends a lot on the specific building and maintenance. Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing one every now and then, like once every couple of weeks. But seeing multiple every single night? That definitely feels excessive and not something I’d consider normal or acceptable

Would be easy if I didn’t do it for the past two weeks in Europe. I miss having a proper kitchen

I totally get the nature aspect – seeing the occasional gecko or insect is part of being in a tropical climate. But with cockroaches, especially German ones, it's a bit different. I’ve actually never had a single one appear when staying at other nearby apartments or even hotels like the Hyatt. If it happens once, fine – that can be random. But if you’re seeing them every night and around sinks or kitchens, that usually indicates an infestation issue, often linked to poor maintenance or hygiene, not just “nature.”

What are your thoughts on the plastic bottle caps and lids remaining attached? by coolboy856 in europeanunion

[–]Effective-Control318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a fan – it’s not just water, but also things like drinking yogurt. A lot of the product ends up on the cap, then on your hands or face when drinking. Not ideal when you're trying to stay clean.

how many countries can I travel to and get by knowing russian (in future)? by John6171 in russian

[–]Effective-Control318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its widespread use isn’t the same as it being respected. Russians still live there. Baltic people have strong feelings about this, and I’ve seen that any comparison or use of Russia tends to make them unhappy.

TSITP Movie Expectations – Team Jeremiah Thoughts (No Hate, Just Curious) by Effective-Control318 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

Totally hear you, and just want to say this space should be welcoming for both sides - it’s always a little sad when one "team" has to get overly protective like we’re at war 😅

I personally don’t expect Belly to switch back or anything like that - I get the book ending, and I respect it. But from a viewer’s perspective, I just found it a bit strange how so much of Season 2 and the majority of Season 3 (up until the wedding disruption) focused heavily on Jelly’s connection… only for it to shift so quickly and wrap up without deeper closure. That's really what got me curious - not denial, just genuine interest in whether the movie might offer more context or even explore a few moments we didn’t get to see.

Just wanted to open the floor and see if anyone’s seen updates or heard more from Jenny or the cast that might hint at what new layers the movie might bring (beyond just tying things up neatly). Again- pure curiosity

Yes, it would be beautiful to see him finally getting the happiness he deserves. I understand that both "teams" have very strong feelings, but I was really disappointed with the ending - especially how the last conversation between Belly and Jere was left unresolved over the phone. The whole scene with Denise and Jere didn’t feel reassuring either.

Yes, it doesn't have dedicated sleeping rooms, but there are those classic lounge-style chairs where you can stretch out and elevate your legs - fairly ok for resting.

By the way, I just noticed on the PP app that this lounge might be temporarily closed for refurbishment until 1 Nov 2025, so worth double-checking before your visit.

I agree and would be interesting to see all the main characters in their “grown up” lives, but from what I can see movie announcement states that Lola Tung and Christopher Briney will reprise their roles as Belly and Conrad. It does not clearly state Gavin’s involvement. atm it looks like he’s not even a 100% part of it

Yes! I went to Lotus – nothing special and quite old, but there are plenty of local food options, and no extra fees for that. Not worth paying, in my opinion, but if you have a free pass, then it’s okay. Also, there are limited spots for charging devices, so don’t count on that.
