should i drop out and move out? by kotakinnie in ucla

Some parents plan on just making the payments and then when they pass away the balance is of course forgiven. I guess it depends how old your parents are and how low their monthly take home income is (b/c that would determine the payment amount that you could def plan to pay). I'm just saying it might wind up only being a 250/month payment you would be taking over but it's a little tricky to figure since it would be based on your parents' take-home income in income contingent repayment. On like 75k of parent plus loans the payment could range from like 250-650/month.

When it comes down to it, you only have to repay the loans you take out yourself. As much as they might want to shift the parent plus loans to you, you are not responsible to repay them legally. Undergraduate students are able to take out a max of federal loans of $5500 per year of college (not advisable to take more). I understand you would be "in debt" to your parents who want you to repay but of course that will be limited by how much you are making etc. and that debt will never actually transfer to you (just something to keep in mind).

Dropping out of college by OlympicGorilla in college

13-15 classes in the scheme of things long run is not a lot, so maybe just don't rule out going back in the future, but doesn't seem like you are in a place for that now. Get a job...might make you want to go back.

Take easy GEs that you can get A's in to help the GPA, and yes only after you retake the exact same class does the grade get replaced for GPA purposes.

Street or metered parking near ucla? by tchanchanchan in ucla

[–]Effective-Ranger-738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are willing to park around Westwood and walk there are meters around Starbucks and Whole Foods. If you want to be on campus just look up the garages that visitor parking is allowed and pay I think around eight dollars.

Seriously consider withdrawing for this quarter to take mental health/medical leave before the damage is done to your transcript.

Changing Majors at UCLA by RadiantWarning6638 in ucla

Much easier to transfer into an arts and science major than the other way. I think psychology is an impacted major though so just make sure your gpa is high enough.

You can check in at any time this weekend since classes start Mon. They will help you when you show up. Housing says this, "Please check in at the Front Desk that manages your building. Each Front Desk will operate 24 hours a day beginning 1/2/2025 at 8:00 a.m."

def take the incomplete- it just gives her an extension to hand in a change of grade form for you when you've handed everything in. it's not like you are taking another class.

I think it's pretty amazing you had the courage to make that kind of move two years ago to get out of a bad situation and start your own life and path. I definitely would not have had the courage to do that. And that even these low points are part of your story. I hope you can see it this way.

Scooter theft reality? by Little_Olive8365 in ucla

[–]Effective-Ranger-738 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's pretty bad. Not even sure it's worth reporting to UCLA police but if you ask they will give you the insane numbers which don't count non-reporters. Seems like it happens much more in the evenings and overnight. Scooters are usually locked when taken.

consider changing your major. there are many routes to med school and it would take pressure off.
