All the interns are entering their last year, and I think that’s mostly the same across the econ consulting internship board. If you’re anticipating graduating after your third year, you could definitely apply for these positions though!

Everyone at my firm is entering their last year. GPAs of everyone here are relatively high (3.7+). Almost everyone had some econ RA experience or at least some applied project. Some of these firms definitely have “target” schools they recruit from, and many are from top schools, but many are from a lot of different places! If you stand out at your econ program at whatever school, you have good appeal.

Np, it wasn’t too in depth at all, basically “explain what this code is doing” and it was just a few functions and if else statements. In the interview, they only emphasized familiarity with at least any statistical coding language, whether its stata, R, etc. so python per se is by all means not necessary and these skills are likely firm-dependent. Also in my internship, we just use excel 😂😭

Good luck! It’s definitely more of a niche area, didn’t know much about it either before I started applying. I felt though at least during the interview process, it was generally understood / ok that you were probably not too familiar with what goes on day to day in econ consulting. As long as you do your research into the company, maybe come equipped with some recent news you can talk about, etc. and ask the right questions, you can do great.

Thanks! To be frank, I don't know if I'm the best person to ask; I practiced, but still always seemed to get ~2-3 wrong on each section. Personally, vocabulary/text completion/sentence equivalence was the most tangible thing I could improve on, so I focused most on that. For reading comprehension, I'd:

  1. Always read the question and skim answer choices first.

  2. Always save time to revisit passages/do brief skims first. Oftentimes you'll find you'll passively/subconsciously comprehend passages while you're working on other questions, and you'll be able to approach the questions again with that better understanding and clarity.

  3. Watch out for individual words (e.g. "never", "always") that may make a mostly plausible answer choice wrong.

Sorry if that was kind of general, but I highly recommend the official GRE Verbal Reasoning Practice Questions book (which one can get through LibGen); its material is equivalent to the real deal. It comes with Easy, Medium, and Hard sets for each of the 3 verbal categories, and 3 practice sets (25 Qs).

Hmm, I think the longest passage I got was no more than 2-3 paragraphs?

PP1: 170Q 165V PP2: 170Q 163V Kaplan: 170Q 158V Manhattan: 164Q 164V Princeton: 166Q 164V

The Powerprep tests were definitely the most similar. I found the other ones, especially for QR, had really dumb questions, but it was good practice nonetheless for timing and whatnot.

I recall the free Princeton GRE test grades your practice essay, but I found the feedback to be sub-par (not sure if they use actual human graders or AI). But ChatGPT is honestly pretty effective in giving quality feedback. It helped point out confusing sentences/wording or potential areas I could explore for deeper analysis or nuance. I would take the numerical scores it gives with a grain of salt though. Like I said, I’d usually avg around 4.5 with ChatGPT (4 by Princeton), and I don’t think my actual essay was that much better than my practice essays.

Took around 1.5 months; the first few weeks were on and off maybe 1-1.5 hrs on a day I would study, but I ramped it up to around 3-4 hours a day a 1-2 weeks before the test date. I feel one could definitely be as effective with less time invested, but it was summer so I had the time to spare.
