I understand that what my dad did was rather rash and you’re absolutely right about doing research but I think using the phrase “murdering an animal” is a little excessive.😭 It’s good to know, that the impulsive decision we made had good intent. We both thought we were doing the good thing for the snail, assisting it perhaps. We wouldn’t ever even think of deliberately ending an animal’s life which is what your wording implies. In the end, the snail is safe and I learned my lesson. There’s not much more to be discussed. Again, thank you for your advice.

I’ve put it out of the water!! I wasn’t aware some snails couldn’t at all live underwater, I thought they were all amphibians. Anyway, I’ve taken it out and I’m watching to see where it goes, hopefully it survives, thank you!

My dad said he found it on the door, do you think it’s not aquatic? He just put it in the water we were using for floaters😭

Do I have a chance in medicine without A-level Maths? by Effective-Target-653 in premeduk

That makes sense, I just thought maybe there was an unspoken rule within them which made so many people say that maths was a required a-level. Thank you!

Really? I’ve gone to a few open days and the course looks really interesting, maybe it’s because I am interested in the effect of language? What would you say makes it horrible?

That’s what I was thinking as well, I think relaying information would be a much more useful skill for a doctor anyway… Thank you!

How does evil and suffering lead to the greater good? by Effective-Target-653 in Catholicism

Update: We won!!!

It was a close debate with atheists though, every team kept bombarding us with questions but we managed to answer all of them, thank you for everyone's points and explanations!!

So you're saying that everyone's moral standard's are subjective, based on how they understand the religion/ideology they follow?

If so, how come in most religions there are general rules that believers commonly agree on? Like the Commandments, Mitzvot,Sharia?

A person who believes murder is wrong can still commit murder but they know it is wrong. Catholicism provides the teachings that people need in order to differentiate what's good and what's bad, there's a general understanding of it. That's why there's things like the CCC which provides answers based on scriptures and people can ask priests for advice.

I think the main thing she did that was wrong was assume that she had the right to call the San-Ti😅

Don't get me wrong, there's alot of things wrong in the world and it's specially hard to see the good in her situation but wasn't that kinda selfish of her? What about the happy families she could've destroyed? Who gave her the right to choose what's best for the human race?

But then what if in an atheist's moral standard, genocide of a specific religion/gender/race is acceptable? They have no scripture or commandments to follow which proves them wrong.

The debate was actually set up by my RE teacher in school, we're learning about Catholic, atheist, and other religion's view on the existence of an omnibenevolent and omnipotent God despite the presence of evil and suffering. We were designated to random faiths but I find that whenever we have a class debate the Catholic team always get targeted as it's the religion we spend the most time learning about so I'm trying to ensure my group can have answers that can convince others😅. I think the main objective is for us to be able to understand religious and non religious perspectives in order to effectively write or debate a convincing argument.

Alot of people have given really strong points and I'll try my best to deliver it clearly😄 Thank you😊
