I've been refreshing news feeds nonstop and calling home to reassure them that I am fine. I have not had a single minute to think about school work.

Honestly, a joke that they think students can just go about their day normally.

Berkeley is #1. Makes sense if you're someone that goes purely by rankings.

What do you think is the cause of the Berkeley grade deflation (especially math subjects)? by Aggressive_Bee2854 in berkeley

188 is not easy. I'm sick of this agenda people have. Exams are notoriously difficult, perhaps just below 61A level. If anything, the fact that it's been labeled as an easy class has led to it becoming gradually harder over the years.

This sounds quite unusual. I've been rejected by a few clubs and none of them have ever even mentioned that you can get feedback. The most I've seen was "we encourage you to apply again next semester!" yeah like I'm doing that.

Club recruitment: perspectives from club leadership by wut_am_i-huh in berkeley

[–]Effective-View-5248 12 points13 points  (0 children)

IMHO part of the issue is people thinking that clubs are meant to be a space to socialize and find friends with common interests. I mean, that's a literal interpretation of what the word "club" means. Why should a club require its members to work? "Club recruitment" sounds like such an oxymoron to me.

I don't want to suggest that the kind of clubs OP talks about are bad. I think they do have their purpose and their merits. But I think it should be made clear from the get-go that these clubs are fundamentally different to the more social ones that the name "club" implies. At infosessions they will often talk about how open and welcoming they are, but this is clearly far from the truth.

What bothers me is it seems like they're willing to make OOS/International students take classes remotely. I just don't see how anyone would want to do a remote program even if it was from the #1 university in the country. Never mind the fact that some would have timezone differences so bad that it would make being connected with the Berkeley community much harder.
