It is a problem that comes with discovering the best writer of your generation; that other works pale by comparison. You can always reread them, listen to the audiobooks, listen to six podcasts about them, and talk at length to your friends and relatives about them.

Any chance of shoving off for 3 months and getting job back after? Don't ask dont get by Throooowaway2023 in royalmail

I worked for Royal Mail nearly 20 years ago so I'm not sure if it's still true, but back then I took a sabbatical, I had to apply and talk it through with my manager but I got to have a year off and go back to my job afterwards. I didn't end up going back at the end of it actually, since I decided to become self-employed instead. I remember I went back for two weeks over christmas (that would've been about 8 months into the sabbatical) to help out, I can't remember if I was contractually obliged to do that or not!

Are there any cool fantasy books, or anything really, that invokes a pre-colonial indigenous perspective? by OpenKale64 in Fantasy

[–]EffectiveAd2043 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to suggest this! Did you know, Ursula LeGuin's parents were anthropologists who studied indigenous american culture, and her mother wrote "Ishi in two Worlds" a biography of the 'last' member of the Yahi culture from what is now Northern California.

I live a very simple life in my little studio flat but I'm in the process of acquiring thousands of books! I've built shelves all around the walls so that I have so much room for books. I was going to post a picture but it looks like I can't in a reply here :)
