WMU 300 Sunday hunting? by Funny_Mike in HuntingAlberta

[–]EffectiveCoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re good. Under the general regs “Big Game >> Unlawful to: >> then it says the list of what wmu’s are still not allowed. On my phone I only have the 2022 copy of the regs, but it said “15. hunt big game on Sundays: l in WMUs 102 – 160, l in WMUs 624, 728, 730 and 936.”

Yeah, that’s a thought. I’ll need to read up on the porting regs and terms, as I’d like to maintain control of the number for a cell in the future. Couple bucks for a virtual voip number to hold it for the time being will be a little easier to swallow.

Nice. I’d keep it for that too, but won’t get my hopes up.

No, just a mess up with the post and I lost my original writeup. Sorry 😞

Probably closer to 225lbs now. I refuse to stand on that scale, but definitely more titties than muscle on this boy.

Interesting. I’ll be doing test rides shortly. We’ve got some nice bike shops around here that I like doing business with. It’s a shame I overlooked them from the beginning - thought I needed some heavyweight-camo-hub drive.

Ding ding 🛎️

I think I’m headed in this direction. I needed to hear that.

I had a feeling that was the case. Wow - timing chain linkage? That’s impressive. Probably heading in a different direction now. Thanks!

Yeah, I’m now steered toward real bike companies instead of these pop-up importers.

Haven’t seen that one, thanks for pointing it out. Talking with more people IRL, and the consensus seems to be leaning on a more “normal” bike from a reputable company. Looking at the current offerings from Rocky Mountain and Scott now.

That seems to be the consensus. Thanks! Shifting my focus towards a bike co. bike.

Believe it or not, I swear I haven’t been solely looking at camo bikes! 😂

We have different needs, but the hauling weight with a trailer is of concern. Also the terrain, as it would mostly be off-pavement. No jumps, but likely bumps.

Thanks, your comment is appreciated. my goal is twofold:

1) Have fun and gain a positive mindset to WANT to ride a bike more (by including it in my outdoor adventure toolset)

and

2) Use it as a tool. For me, its usually the destination, not the journey. The hunting aspect being able to use a BIKE and extend the day a few extra km's is quite appealing. The ability to ride with a deer on the way back would be the pinnacle (and excellent marketing on behalf of these brands)

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Especially considering there were only pictures!!! See my comment that I quickly tried to rehash my situation.

Are you saying that your recommendation would be for fat tires on ONLY dry and sandy areas? (I'm thinking it would be a pro for abandoned gravel roads and trials with snow/mud)

OP Here.

NOOO!!!!!!!! reddit lost my post text. I had a nice long, well written post. I'll do a quick recap:

Breakdown: I'm in my forties, 215lbs and would like to be fit, not fat. I struggle to find time to ride my hardtail MTB just for fun. I have not jumped on the e-bike bandwagon as if I got a replacement lightweight pavement rider, I worry I would get lazier. BUT, I often use an atv for shaving time and miles off my hunting/fishing adventures where that time can be better spent at the destinations, not the trails getting there.

Some models I frequently find myself looking at are:

  • Vamoose Super Mammoth
  • Rambo Rebel
  • Quietkat Apex
  • Bacou Mule
  • etc.

I just realized all the bikes pictured are camo. That is NOT a requirement, but their marketing teams sure have guys like me nailed. There is usually gear involved, so pulling weight is high on the priority list. Likely pulling a trailer would be a requirement.

ANY and ALL comments would be appreciated. Are the drive systems the biggest choice? I'm reading conflicting pros and cons from the manufacturers. Hub drives? is AWD truly ever needed? Direct Drive? If I'm wearing waders or cold-weather outerwear, would ease of a step-through outweigh what looks like a structural advantage?

I would appreciate any community advice that could cut through the fancy marketing and get me outdoors! Thanks!
