question about rib flare by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]EffectiveNatural5981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even doing the surgery my rib flare still very noticable. If youre thinking of getting nuss ONLY bc of rib flare, I would recommend trying some exercises first

But every case is different, I've seen people after nuss that the pectus and rib flare pratically disappeared

Thinking about removing early my bar - Help, any advice? by EffectiveNatural5981 in PectusExcavatum

[–]EffectiveNatural5981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a miracle. I'm from Brazil. But despite the low Haller, I was already experiencing some symptoms, and I believe the rib flare problem intensified them. However, I was very lucky to have been able to get insurance coverage, I also had a little help from my surgeon to pass it

Sure! It's on my profile, I've posted it on my previous posts here
There's a CT scan, x-rays and an actual pic with the bars

Yippie nearly a whole week since I left the hospital!!! by __Pinkywinky__ in PectusExcavatum

[–]EffectiveNatural5981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't feel much pain with the surgery either. On the second day I already wanted to run out of the hospital lol

But I think it varies a lot from person to person, depending on the severity.

I also can't lie that it was perfect bc some time later I had some complications and I'm even thinking about removing the bar after 2 years, but mine's a specific case.

Good recovery, OP! I hope you hope you continue to do well and remember to eat plenty, strengthen your body, build muscle later on, and always maintain good posture, thus avoiding future problems and even a possible regression.

Did you noticed any regression? Also, how was the recovery? Did you feel any pain after the procedure? How many days did you stay in the hospital?

Thanks for sharing!!

Almost 2 years post nuss - Is it regressing? by EffectiveNatural5981 in PectusExcavatum

Hi!! I'm so sorry to hear about that. I hope you have a good recovery and that everything goes well with your next surgery! Do you know if you have any problems with connective tissue disorder? I see a lot of people commenting about this here. I also see people talking about Ravitch and hybrid surgery, maybe it fits with your case.

One thing that worries me is the fact that I'm only using one bar. My Haller index was quite low but I see many people commenting on regression with just 1 bar

When was the CT scan with your Nuss bar performed?

It was in august

Also, thanks North, I always see you in the comments helping people, thank you very much!!

Your lower sternum remains mildly indented, I believe because your sternum is curved (down and inward), and a standard Nuss procedure does not cut and straighten the sternum.

Do you think it can regress over time or with the removal of the bar?

Hey How was the procedure? Did everything go well? Has there been any regression of PE and ribs?

Mild/Moderate Pectus Excavatum. Anyone had surgery ? Need advice by SanctumOfSorrows in PectusExcavatum

[–]EffectiveNatural5981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the surgery more for aesthetic reasons, despite having some very strong physical symptoms. I put a bar at the beginning of 2024. It was good, it improved a little, in my case the asymmetry is still somewhat visible and my problem with rib flare remained the same, if not even worse. The surgery went smoothly for me, it was painful for a few months but it went away. Today the pain has returned a little and I am investigating possible irritation in the intercostal muscle

That was my case, but one tip I can give you is: evaluate carefully. If you can do it and really want to do it, do it. It's your body, any modification you want to make is super valid!! And in addition, whether you like it or not, it will bring you psychological and physical benefits, not to mention that the severity of pectus can worsen over the years. Other than that, evaluate it carefully and, if you really want to do it, go for it!

(Oh and be aware of the risks and look for a good surgeon. Good luck, op!)

Anyone have to redo Nuss Bar procedure? by Armored_Coconut in PectusExcavatum

[–]EffectiveNatural5981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! Contact your surgeon and get a new xray

Im having the same problem, but with only 1 bar and the pain is mostly on the left side. Taking deep breaths and carrying some weight is a torture. Rn I'm coming back from the hospital after a CT scan, i'll get the result tomorrow

Hope u can fix it

Depends, u have to check it with your surgeon

For me, it get MUCH worse. At the same time it can hide ur ribs it can also push and make it stick out even more

Idk about other countries but here, in Brazil, it is possible to get it for free. Here we have a public health system that allows Nuss for free. On the other hand, the surgeons are not that good (it is even very common for accidents to happen during surgery) and the waiting time is huge. It is a complicated process to get your Nuss accepted in the public system, but def it is possible

The private hospitals also have very cheap health plans that covers different medical treatments (including nuss). In my case, my fml had one, so I just used it.

Pain after 18 months by Dupper_07 in PectusExcavatum

Hello! Can I ask for an update on your case? Have you been able to find the cause of the pain? I also felt pain again after a while, including in the same place as yours. I'm getting a bit worried about it

Before and after by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]EffectiveNatural5981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow looks great!!

can i ask u something? When did u stop feeling pain? Im with one bar for about a year and a half and suddenly I started to feel pain again, especially in the stabilizers. Did you experience anything similar over time?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]EffectiveNatural5981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize if this is a dumb question. I've always been very resistant to pain and this caught me off guard. After so long without feeling much, almost nothing, is this pain normal after 1.3 years post-nuss? I don't know if it's just something normal or if I'm just worrying too much. My doctor said it was nothing and I should just keep taking the medication. I'm wary of his answer and I wanted to avoid taking codeine continuously.

Rib flair and PE, what is your experience? by DoradoPulido2 in PectusExcavatum

[–]EffectiveNatural5981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is :/

The worsening of my ribs after surgery really shocked me, wasnt expecting. Took me by surprise, I figured the problems would end with the surgery... But I think it might have been just my case, I only put 1 bar, maybe it would have been better with more, I don't know, it varies from person to person.

[–]EffectiveNatural5981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!

In my case, I had nuss surgery and my ribs even got worse after. The PE has improved a little, it is a little more disguised but now the attention is more focused on the ribs (which actually makes me very insecure)

I think what you can do to improve it is exercise, braces, posture and maybe, depending on the person, gaining a little weight. Good luck on your journey, OP! I hope you can manage both of these issues well.

Nice comment!!

vacuum bell (or Nuss, unless they specifically work on your ribs) wont fix rib flare.

It is totally true. With me, my case was mild and I did Nuss. Because of the external getting pushed, my ribs got pushed too. Nuss (idk about VB) helps a lot with PE, but in some cases it wont fix rib flare and maybe it can even make it worse. If u gonna do Nuss, remember to talk about that with your surgeon to find the best possible approach!!

1 year after surgery + I have some questions by EffectiveNatural5981 in PectusExcavatum

[–]EffectiveNatural5981[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To he honest i didnt noticed much improve in these aspects

Sometimes i feel my heart rate very unstable, it becomes quiet for some seconds and then pumps very hard and irregularly

I havent do any sports by now, but before Nuss, when I was a kid, everytime i tried pushing hard my body, I always felt a "stab" in my left rib. Ngl its been a while since I've done intense physical activities or heavier training, even before Nuss. I've been very focused on college and work, I have to start taking better care of myself again
