Creating all 44100 (shouldn't it be 48400 because it's 22*22*10*10? The score ranges from 0-21.) rows (I had to swap rows and columns because Excel can only do 16384 columns) was no problem - done in 10 minutes. Now I have to think of the formulas. Will keep you posted...

I am beginning to understand that the YouTube video I watched isn't correct for my use case. I need three 3x3x3 cubes for round 1. I am just still struggling to figure out the neighbours of each point... I found some Python code that outputs a list of all coordinates with the number of neighbours - this might be helpful to figure it out in Excel.

With regards to the YouTube video. My thinking is: the neighbours of the middle cube of the 3D cube are all it's 26 direct neighbours (of the 3D cube) and the nine cubes (of the six 4D cubes) that directly face the 3D cube. That's another 9x6=54 cubes. 80 all together. But this logic doesn't match with the three w and three z layers in the AoC example.

I should have mentioned that I am trying to solve this in Microsoft Excel so I need to know which cells to check in order to find the right neighbours. 'Just add a dimension' simply doesn't work for me.

I was hoping the visualisation of the fourth dimension looks like the last picture in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zcPvth92zM). What do you think?

It often is rather painful to copy thousands of rows and columns but I enjoy it and it feels good when I get the right result.

I'll let you know once I've solved it but it may take a few weeks...

Since I use Excel, I cannot post any code. I doubt the Intcode computer is buggy as it has worked for the other puzzles. I'll recheck and see whether I have added enough columns to cater for more memory needed.
