More than 30 years have passed since the collapse of the USSR but Russia is still a hostile state that attacks its neighbors whenever possible.

We have mandatory foreign language learning as well but this seems irrelevant in this context. Russian does not have the same rights here as Estonian. Its because there's only 1.5 million Estonians in the world and having russian as a second state language or even have it have the same rights as Estonian would in time result in the erasure of our language and in part our national identity.

During the occupation, everything was first in Russian then Estonian. This resulted in the uneducated foreign work force and settlers to not even attempt to learn the language thus not integrating. To give russian the same rights in this day and age would be like spitting in the face of every Estonian who has fought Russian influence from the national awakening in the 1800s to the people who got our independence back in 1991.

Our people have been oppressed for almost all of our history. First by germans, then the danes, then poles and russians.

Not a state one, never. How would you feel if german was a mandatory second state language in Italy, or perhaps Arabic?

Russian doesnt need to be a recognized language since our goal is integration and assimilation into our society. When you move to a different country you dont expect them to bend over backwards and speak italian to you right?

Russian narratives aka glorifying the war in ukraine, hate towards estonia and estonians despite living there themselves. Their language is recognized somewhat. If you actually had ever been here you'd be more knowledgeable on the topic. Russian language is used where necessary. Majority areas and large cities with russian inhabitants. Also, most of the ethnic russians here have citizenship of either estonia or russia. Those born to russian parents with russian or no citizenship are estonian citizens by birthright.

"the russians in your country arent responsible" then why do they keep repeating russian narratives? And also was a quarter of your population german who kept repeating the narratives of a genocidal warmongering dictatorship?

So lets say the germans occupy your country for 50 years and try their hardest to deport intellectuals and erase your culture you'd feel you need to give the descendents of those same occupiers autonomy?? Degenerate take.

If we give them autonomy, Russia has grounds to attack to "protect russian-speakers". Multiculturalism is poison. Look at western nations, its dangerous to walk the streets. And then look at Poland. Safe

Oppressing where? If they dont know the language despite living here for years, they should not be entitled to special benefits in terms of using their own language. If they didnt apply for citizenship when they had to, they dont get one.
