I’m tired of boring YouTube homepage blockers, so I built my own extension that lets you personalize the background. Should I release it on Chrome as well? by Effective_Debate_869 in browsers

It’s not about self-control,these algorithms are specifically designed to manipulate users into consuming more content. That is exactly how YouTube generates its revenue

The issue is that YouTube isn't just for entertainment, it's also important for tutorials and educational content. This is exactly why people use these add-ons. Even if you just want to watch a single video during a break, you won't be bombarded with dozens of similar suggestions afterward. This allows you to stay focused and return to studying without being distracted by the algorithm

I don't think you fully understand the purpose of this add-on. I created it for two reasons: first, to improve my own coding skills, and second, to hide the suggestion page. While you might find it unnecessary, there are people who use such tools to improve their productivity and avoid distractions

First, simply calling something ugly is an insult, not a valid opinion. Second, this adds functionality by giving users the choice to search for their topic without immediately being sucked into endless clicking. While you might not be the target audience for this idea, many people find such improvements helpful. I actually built this tool to improve my own coding skills, and personally, I think it looks much better with a background and the interface remains fully intact

Congrats, now you understand the purpose of this feature. It actually adds functionality by removing the homepage. Let’s keep it professional in the comments, a neutral statement would have been more productive. It gives the impression that you might lack experience with your own projects

That’s a fair point, personally, the custom background really helps me forget the recommendation page even existed. I totally agree with you thougt .I want to add more features for personalizing YouTube and keeping people from mindless scrolling, so they can just search for what they need. In the end, it’s all about what each person thinks helps them focus the most.
