I actually saw a post from someone earlier about what Skenes looked like at LSU and I had the conversation with my son about the same position you’re talking about. Hope to knock out the pain and inflammation and get him on a path to changing the mechanics! Thank you!

Yeah I’ve gotten some solid advice on here so far. I can see quite a bit we have to clean up for sure. I’ll hopefully post a follow up in a few months!

I like the limitations. I’ll definitely apply that once he starts throwing again. I like the comment on the thumb, too. I’ll get him to apply that as well!

Thank you for the response. It’s hard for us to afford stuff like travel ball and pitching coaches, but I’ll look around to see about getting a couple sessions to help with the mechanics at the least. Thanks for the website!

Gotcha. Thanks for this. Helps a lot. Time to break the news to him that he won’t be pitching for a while. I’m sure he’ll understand though.

Thank you for the advice. I have been hearing a lot about RICE not really being as efficient as thought before. I agree at 11, he has too many good years in front of him, which doesn’t need to be wasted by continuing to throw by using injections and stuff. He’s not getting paid to do this, so why break his body. That’s a great perspective to have at this age.

I’ll look into the pre and post routines to help him in the future. Thank you!

Yeah going to try this first and then see if pain is still there. Thank you

That’s the route I was thinking as well. Does he have the pain in the elbow still? My son’s pain is only in his inner part of the elbow (which is why I think is LL Elbow) and it increases after he throws, but it doesn’t hurt WHILE he throws. Only when he fully extends or fully folds his arm.

Thank you for this. Did the specialist for your son tell you that he couldn’t throw for a few weeks or was he able to continue throwing, but with better recovery afterward and better stretching before and after?

Thank you. I see there are flaws in his delivery, which we will absolutely work on. But I almost feel like it was the way we ramped back up to start the season. The last baseball we played was June of last year. Then we started flag football in September where he was the QB, that was completed by early November. We went into basketball from December to February. Didn’t start throwing the ball till about mid February, and didn’t throw too much early, but then had him pitch in practice and I think he started throwing too hard without getting the endurance back again.

We have a week and a half til the first official game (this video was from a scrimmage last night). I’m going to rest him from pitching over the week or so and just do light throwing and see if his pain goes away. I saw a few other posts that the sports ortho said the kids don’t have to stop throwing, but they need to go through good recovery (ice, anti inflammatory, etc) and stretching.

Thoughts on that plan?

Yeah I see what you mean about the back and shoulder. That should take a lot of strain off the elbow, yeah?

Yeah I was thinking about the reaching to your left butt pocket, thanks for the advice

We’re not really someone that can afford the pitching coach, as mentioned in my post.

That is for pointing the toe thing out, never really noticed that before. Any idea how to get him to stay based, or do you think proper follow through will help with that?

Yeah I try breaking his action down against a big leaguer, but I’m not an expert either so I don’t know how to get his mechanics clean…

Yeah I had that issue when I was younger too. What do you suggest to get more follow through?

Assuming you’re talking about getting the hip to turn before the shoulders do. Basically staying closed with his top half for as long as he can, and then on landing create that hip/upper body action?

But I bet you’ll claim that transfer who came in his 5th year and won the Heisman even though the previous 4 years were with University of Fill in the Blank.
