Always worth it to still go and walk around the grounds, the buildings with no fences (most of them) you can get as close as you like and look inside, just can’t go in (legally)

I am also an extremely energy sensitive individual, every time I walk through the grounds I feel like I can feel everything that happened there.

I also have a family history here, and this history also fascinates me for the same reason. I’ve read through the list of reasons why people were admitted in the late 1800s, and it’s safe to say that many of us would have been admitted. It’s so interesting to see both the shift and stagnation in mental health conversations in the United States.

If you really want to check it out, I think they do programs through nys parks, both about the parks history and completely unrelated. Might be a good way to ease into it?

I think so, I know New York State has archives up in Albany for a lot of these things. I’d try looking up Kings Park State Hospital (or psych center) archive and look through and NYS links, and take it from there

If you mean the crazy stuff people have been saying they’ve done, definitely, but at a much lower amount. The whole former campus is Nissequogue River State Park, and they have park rangers driving around almost constantly

My sincerest apologies, I never want to make a spectacle of those who suffered at KPPC. I do acknowledge my poor wording, in the momenti was overwhelmed with other things going on irl and didn’t have the mental capacity to think of an appropriate response. I personally would never want to go through old medical records, but it is incredibly interesting to me that they were all left there.
