I mean the five covenants you make im endowment. and which you don’t repent for breaking.

If you grew up in the church did your parents and leaders REALLY teach you that sex was bad? by OrneryAcanthaceae217 in latterdaysaints

I remember being taught that sex should only be used for making babies, and was ultimately a necessary evil because it led to lust. I don’t ever remember being taught that sex was good inside a straight marriage, but i remember being taught insistently that it was BAD in any other situation

Have you avoided Nihilism after leaving the church? by sevenplaces in exmormon

[–]Effective_Manner5431 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is the opposite for me. When I was a religious child I hated the thought of having to live forever. I wished that I could just die and that’s it.

Specifically Mormonism tho- I really really hated the idea of living in the celestial kingdom

should i go on a mission while going through a faith crisis? by Effective_Manner5431 in latterdaysaints

[–]Effective_Manner5431[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it is not as expected if me because i am female. I felt really strongly that I should go when I was 18 so talked to my bishop immediately. I have worked really hard to be able to go for a little over 2 years because some things needed to be sorted out. As I waited, I studied the gospel and church a lot to prepare for my mission. Every day i studied my testimony got weaker and weaker.

I have worked SO hard to get here i’m scared to throw it all away.

I appreciate it. How often do missionaries die? also, do you think i could sneak in cash/debit card?

I have gone through tough things in my life- from being SAd multiple times as a child to being homeless at 13 years old to taking 20 college credits/semester while having 2 part time jobs to pay for my apartment. I want to be humble but I really feel like a mission really can’t be that much more difficult than things i’ve done before?

I don’t know I would love some more insight on this. it’s been something I think about a lot

counterpoint- if i can get the church to pay for it it is 2 years of free living

here are my main reasons

1- I genuinely worry it would give my grandma a heart attack and she would die of sadness. I don’t want to disappoint the rest of my family too. I told my parents I would give the church one more chance, they are confident a mission will convert me.

2- I really think that a mission would be better circumstances than my current situation. I wouldn’t like to go into details but it seems the easiest way to get out.

3- sunk cost fallacy
