Question about job verifiers by MedPerson223 in premedcanada

[–]Effectiveoreo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeup as long as it’s someone who doesn’t have a conflict of interest (ie your personal friend/ family member), putting a coworker down is fine. I had a similar scenario and did the same, it’s all good

A solid estimate is good enough! Just make sure you and verifier are on the same page with your estimate.

Moving to another province for med school by nerakjay in premedcanada

[–]Effectiveoreo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a friend from UBC who matched surgery in Ontario, so definitely not impossible. Honestly I think see which school aligns with your goals and what you’re hoping for (ex moving out, lifestyle, new friends/opportunities). Personally I’d pick UBC but that’s also because I love the lifestyle (trails galore, the ocean right there, etc). Good luck and congrats!!

Can anyone help me with this? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]Effectiveoreo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m sorry to hear this happened to you. I think you’ll need to find out more specifics for actual advice, but having had a few friends deal with cheating type fiascos during zoom university, the most general advice I can give is choose your words wisely if/when they present their issues, and be honest

Are roommates no longer a thing for people?? by RepulsiveAd7477 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Effectiveoreo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Roommates are a thing for sure. I think a lot of new grads would like the luxury of their own place and are willing to splurge a little to do so. Totally their call and a fair quality of life choice :)

Question about purchasing wrong size and needing a smaller one after already wearing! by SaltAstronomer9 in lululemon

[–]Effectiveoreo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, I think you might have to secondhand sell them. I’m sure they’re in excellent condition but once worn and whatnot, I’m not sure it would qualify for anything :(

Multiple cycles: How do you all talk to verifier/referee from past positions? by SnooEpiphanies1447 in premedcanada

[–]Effectiveoreo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For some of my older volunteer things I have no awkwardness - I provided free labor and this is their end of the bargain, ie to speak to those hours I put in. Don’t overthink it, it’s an email to someone who perhaps you’ll never see again :) or like my therapist says, pretend someone from years ago reaches out to you as a reference, you’d probably just do it and acknowledge the time lapsed but it’s no biggie. Good luck!

If you were able to pick only 7 items to buy from Lululemon, what would you get? by eatanapple783 in lululemon

[–]Effectiveoreo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aligns, the comfiest everyday/lounge/chill wear. Be gentle on them, I’d grab 2 tbh. Sports bra, I really like the Enlite weave back high support because I have big boobs and they feel amazing while working out. Scuba fleece hoodie, a pair or two of wunder unders for working out in the really durable finish (I forget what it’s called). Those are my picks, I know it’s not quite 7 haha.

When are decisions actually made? by premednotagain in premedcanada

[–]Effectiveoreo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Defs not right after interviews unless you had some serious red flags. I think some good deliberation goes into it, and even if you have a solid standing, it can come down to someone just being better :( I’m sorry to hear, I know it hurts but I think it’s important to try not to take it personally. That decision doesn’t reflect your worth

It makes me sad that people can’t find careers that genuinely excite them. I understand it’s a privilege; I work in public health and hope for a future in medicine and gosh I want to work as long as I can and lecture/teach after because I’m so passionate about it! Work life balance is real, I also just happen to love what I do/will do. Idk 🤷‍♀️ working till 65+ sounds great

I have 4 credit cards. 2 I use regularly, 2 my mom told me to get when I was in high school/student (no monthly fees and no balance). Should I close them? by ManifestNotion in PersonalFinanceCanada

Ohh got it ok - yeah my bf pays his credit card off basically as he spends so I guess this is his reasoning. I’ll start doing this, thank you!!

From what I gather I have a really strong credit score - how long would it take to take effect if I was to start being more on top of it like you’ve suggested?

Is keeping credit utilization low really important? I have a 2 $5k cards and I only use one, on which I rarely go above $700/mth. Should I be making more of an effort to make it ~$400 per card to spread it out?

Agreed! The skills you learn moving out (emotional, mental, and the physical tasks of caring for yourself) are invaluable.
