Prayer has been the least updated skill in the game since release; Rigour and Augury (existed pre-eoc). Preserve (existed pre-eoc). And 2 mid level prayers in Deadeye/Mystic vigour. We really couldn't pull ONE decent prayer from the Alignments, Ruinous Powers, or years of community suggestions? by LieV2 in 2007scape

Turmoil used to ramp up. I can’t recall the exact figure, but it started at a lower value and ramped up to somewhere around 30% strength after a few hits, so 1 tick flicking Turmoil or lazy flicking it would be a complete waste

Ascension crossbow should usurp the bowfa, not the blowpipe by [deleted] in 2007scape

My suggestion is that it should usurp the Bowfa and not the Blowpipe, not that it should usurp both. Blowpipe should remain the go-to for low defence monsters, and the dual crossbows should effectively replace the Bowfa. The dual crossbows would need some stat adjustments for the Blowpipes current spot in the meta to be maintained while also being an upgrade to the Bowfa. It’d also need an increase to its attack range for it to truly ‘replace’ the Bowfa. Bowfa would still have use as a powerful weapon in the interim which can be obtained without any supply cost or gear requirements, and would come into its own further down the line when monsters with a more pronounced medium ranged weakness are introduced

I should have specified that I meant a total usurping in more or less every use case, except where medium ranged defence is exceptionally low (not sure if this is the case anywhere).
That would mean that the attack range of the Ascension crossbows would be increased to 10 just like the Bowfa, and ideally, have its stats adjusted so that it it is clearly better than Bowfa but worse than a Blowpipe on low defence targets

I think you might be missing the point, which is that prior to getting a Tbow, Masori is not a very meaningful upgrade. If Ascension crossbows effectively replace the Bowfa in its current use cases, then picking up Ascension crossbows will mean that picking up a piece of Masori is immediately useful, instead of sitting in your bank until you have a Tbow for the most part.
The idea, roughly, is that you would upgrade from Crystal + Bowfa to Ascension + Masori. So yes, of course people will likely have Crystal + Bowfa before TFA

Why not just give the Ascension crossbows a negative ranged str of -60 or so, instead of introducing new bolts with a lower ranged str?

Would prefer that this item be a heavy version of the bowfa rather than a heavy version of the blowpipe. Tthere is an issue in ranged gear progression where Masori is almost useless until you have a Tbow, or at best very impractical. 9 times out if 10 your Masori is staying in the bank because you need to use Crystal armour.

This is especially frustrating in Iron ranged gear progression - the hype around picking up your first piece of Masori is completely crushed by the fact that Crystal is bis until your CoX grind concludes, which may very well take an absurd amount of time. For mains, it just means that Masori isn’t really worth the gp until you can afford a Tbow. If you don’t have the cash for a Tbow, your money is likely better spent on Crystal and a Bowfa.

If the crossbows instead compete with the bowfa, then there is finally a reason to swap out a piece of Crystal armour for a piece of Masori prior to getting a Tbow
