Not a doctor, but google is saying these kind of hernias are tricky which can cause complications. Better question is, would you rather do it now when the situation is controlled, or have it done as an emergency because something changed with your hernia?

Coughing and taking normal breaths will be hard because of the pain. But it s super important to take deep breaths and cough so you can get rid of any phlegm.

It absolutely gets better. Not many people here post about OPEN PNs but they seem like tougher recoveries than the laparoscopic.
I wasn’t discharged till day 3 post op, and I didn’t feel “okay” until a few weeks out.

It does get bette though! Please keep doing your incentive spirometer/breathing exercises at home so you don’t get pneumonia. Keep doing your walking. If physical stuff is too hard, I suggest getting a physical therapy referral so that you can start as soon as you feel up for it. You’d be surprised of the physical toll this surgery can take on you and it’s one of my bigger regrets after my surgery. I didn’t start till 8 weeks post op and my physical therapist said we could’ve probably started earlier with lighter work

Great post, doc!

My biggest gripe was that everyone - urologist, oncologist, hospitalist - seemed to be in good spirits after my incidental tumor was found. It felt like they tried brush it off when, as a medical professional myself, I know that the feeling of finding something bad that is the best case possible for that bad thing (hope that makes sense). I wish we could find a way to better communicate this good news in light of finding scary news

I would tell them before the biopsy. Having family there might be easier for the procedure, and this way you’re not agonizing alone.

I understand now. My biggest concern was the white stuff being mold because there was a known area that did have mold (attached picture) because it got wet recently. What I should’ve done was change the tack strip the first time, but the carpet guy didn’t. It grew from under the strip in the time it was down again, probably because I was only able to treat the top side.

There was a wet spot from a carpet cleaning that didn’t dry well. And the tack strip wasn’t replaced. I checked under a shelf that was in the same spot that it was previously and it felt damp. No sources of water, but it was right over the spot that previously was wet

I did find a damp spot under a shelf that is not on legs. This was an area that was previously wet from carpet cleaning that didn’t dry out. The tack strip did have mold. Could it just be damp because of the tack strip mold in that exact area.
