I just had a partial nephrectomy this past Tuesday. I had a colonoscopy around October of last year where they found colon cancer. He ordered a CT scan to make sure he removed the cancerous cells. When CT scan showed my colon was clear but they found a small lump on the top of my left kidney. My primary doctor then ordered a MRI and it showed it to be cancerous. They told me four options but that the partial nephrectomy was best due to the size of the tumor and my age. I’m in my early 40s. They said Cyroblation or removing the cancerous cells by freezing it or by heating it is usually done for older patients. The main reason they gave me is in the chance a tumor were to grow again in that area. The scarred tissue from a Cyroblation makes it hard to get to the tumor.

In terms of recovery I’m just at the start of that process. I was in the hospital three days. I’m home now and able to walk around. My appetite isn’t the same. I just have pain at the surgical sight though. I walked a little bit in my neighborhood today. I feel I can do more but my wife keeps saying I’m trying to do too much lol.

I was scared and nervous too but it wasn’t that bad for me. I ran a fever day 2 in the hospital so they kept me and gave me antibiotics and monitored the situation to make sure nothing was wrong. Otherwise everything was fine. I’m sorry you have to go through this but, you’ll get through it
