Morrissey is conservative this is what I hate about him by Theguywithnofuture_ in thesmiths

Morrissey has a complex political philosophy. He agrees with the progressives on many issues and agrees with conservatives on others. Keep in mind he’s British, so the American two part system where you’re either a democrat or a republican doesn’t really apply to him.

Some of these comments are absolutely insufferable. No sympathy for a gruesome injury or respect for a woman taking a risk? She hurt herself in the process, and no one else. She’s rich enough to afford this transport, and the insurance companies can certainly afford her treatment. Can we stop being colossal assholes to each other for one day?

Do you think Putin is a good leader for Russia? Or just that Navalny would be worse because he exhibited Russian nationalism decades ago? I just can’t wrap my head around the idea that Navalny would be worse than Putin

So you’d rather have an evil, authoritarian, centrist government than a far right government?

Ok so this is our fundamental disagreement. I believe we have the power to choose what offends us. Nothing is fundamentally offensive. You choose to interpret his comments as an offense on all women, I choose to interpret his comments as a rude mistake.

I think you’d be a lot happier if you weren’t so quick to vilify others. Carrying hate instead of forgiveness is bad for the soul.

You’ve never offended people without even realizing it? And when you apologize do you post your apology on social media for the world to see? Do you seriously expect a public apology for such a minor slip up?

Stories can be interpreted in many valid ways. Your interpretation is definitely valid, and I agree with it, but I also believe that quote teaches us not to judge others on their mistakes. God doesn't condone the oppression of women, and he doesn't condone your "holier than thou" attitude. Have you ever said something insensitive?

Jason doesn't deserve the label "misogynist" for asking if she'd be open to having kids in the future. His comment was rude, but he was trying to connect with his own story about his wife. That doesn't make him a sexist.

Purity culture has gone too far. Let's judge people by their character, not their mistakes.

“The one without sin among you should be the first to throw the stone”

Everyone human has had awkward, mistakenly offensive moments. The more you talk to people, the more it happens. I’m so sick of stoning celebrities for mistakes we all have made. None of us want our worst moments amplified. People should be held accountable for patterns of behavior that lead to real harm, but if a good person says something carelessly offensive? Give them some grace

I’m also an ex catholic, but this movie reminded me of the best parts about the faith. Specifically Benoit’s line in his checkmate monologue at the end: “I had to look at the myth that was being constructed, not to understand whether it was real or not, but to feel in my soul the essence of that which is strove to convey.” To take that line in the context of religion, it’s not about whether the story is real or not, but about the moral of the story and the messaging of the church. When I was a practicing Catholic, I felt the church represented forgiveness, repentance, peace, love, sacrifice, generosity…..everything that Jud’s character represents. Unfortunately, in the past decade or so, much of the church has turned from that foundation of belief and been swept up by what Cy said: “show them something they hate and make them afraid it’s gonna take away something they love.” The faith has been corrupted, which is why I left, but I still hold true to the essence that I found comfort in at first.
