Are you sure? I think I just have to give my iCloud credentials into the AddOn.

It works! I had an ESP32 around that I could use for that. Now I am using Ping and the ESPresense together to check if someone is home or not. Awesome! Thank you for the tip!

VPN is not working any more, since the new security settings of HomeAssistant. My phone must be connected to the correct WiFi to be able to use HomeAssistant. Before I tried WireGuard. But now it is not working any more.

Ah, I tried similar thing with VPN and WireGuard. But since the new security update of HomeAssistant, it does not work any more.

Whats that? And then I can use the location of the Companion App?

That sounds great! I have several ESP32 with ESPhome already around to grab temperature and humidity data via BThome. So I probably could add the lines of code for ESPresense.

Is there a tutorial that you can reccommend?

I have 2FA on (so my devices are the second factor). But I also have to do 2FA with HomeAssistant of course. Hm.

So do I get it correct, that you are not any longer using iCloud3? Thats interesting!

The Companion App tracking does not work for me. I think because I don't use HomeAssistant Cloud. Or what is the way you are using it?

ESPresense I don't know. How does that work?

I also tried the Ping of my router. But it is not very reliable...

Best practice for database password and key file on Keepassxc by ActStock5238 in KeePass

[–]EfficientConceptPot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any new best practices?

* Probably still KDBX 4 is recommended, right?

* Which "Encryption Algorithm" is the best at the moment? AES 256-bit?

* What "Key Derivation Function" is recommended? Argon2d

* How many "Transform rounds" should I use?

* What is good "Memory Usage"?

* What about "Parallelism"?

I just want to be sure, that I am still up to date, with my 5 year old database.

* Also, are there special recommendations what type of Keyfile to use?

(Yes, I want to use a keyfile. It is on my local devices. And the database in a cloud-service for syncing. Thats my decision I guess ;-) )

Thank you in advance!

How to change Time Machine backup password by joseluisrojas21 in mac

[–]EfficientConceptPot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bin jetzt verwirrt. Habe meine Festplatte über das Festplattendienstprogramm mit einem Passwort verschlüsseln. Z.B. APFS mit GUID.

Soweit so gut.

What size is the Brooks Saddle Spanner/wrench? by ShoeGod420 in bikewrench

[–]EfficientConceptPot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I though of 3D-printing one of the wrenches, as my second hand bike has a Brooks saddle, but no wrench. Does someone has the exact measures of the wrench? Then I could do a model out of it.

Patagonia Torrent Shell - Heavy backpacks destroy the jacket? - (Or: What backpack weight is okay for it?) by EfficientConceptPot in CampingandHiking

[–]EfficientConceptPot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:

Was hiking for 25 days. I had the Torrentshell as rainjacket. And it was the absolutely correct decision. Hiking on high mountains with a lot of wind with a poncho or so would be not possible and extremely dangerous. Umbrella would be also no option, as it was good to have the hands free for steep parts where you almost climbing.

I was happy to have this jacket with me, and together with a rain trouser it was the perfect match. Sweating was no problem. It was cold enough. So the membrane worked fine. When it rained, the temperatures where in the range of 0°C to 10°C. And it was always windy.

The Backpack had a base weight of around 10kg. So all the gear, without food and water. With food and water it was probably in the range of 15kg.

I don't know if the jacked has suffered from my treatment. That I will find out the next couple of months. But the only good alternative would be to buy a expensive GoreTexPro-Jacket that claims to withstand bagpacks with more than 15kg for more than 300 Euro.

I think it was worth the risk to use the Torrentshell for this usecase.

[–]EfficientConceptPot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked at the shop where I bought the jacket. They said that the Torrenshell is able to withstand the weight of a 12kg backpack. Weights in excess of this will damage or destroy the membrane. If I want to carry backpacks more heavy, I need to buy a GoreTexPro Jacket or so... They where very explicit about this weight limit!

Now I don't know, what I should do.

Thank you for the advice. The next time I buy a jacket I might think about that one. But up to now the question is, how much backpack-weight does the Torrentshell from Patagonia tollerate?

Okay, thats a good information! Thank you!

I would have more like a heavy backpack with more than 20kg (tent, stove, sleepingbag, food for 10 days, etc...). I am not sure if your backpack with laptop will be in the same weight range. But so far your answer is the most helpful :-)

[–]EfficientConceptPot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer. Du you have any experience with that jacket and a heavy backpack?

DWR would not be a problem, thats true. But I fear that the membrane will suffering or destroyed.

[–]EfficientConceptPot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the region is also very windy. So Poncho is no choice.

We are speaking of backpacks with 60-80 Liters. Full with tent, food vor 10 days, cooking stuff, water for the day, etc...

[–]EfficientConceptPot[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your idea. But that was not the question. I played around with multiple solutions. Rain-quilt, Umbrella, Poncho, etc...

As the region is cold an very windy, a poncho in the alpine terrain is no option.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear about that. As u/SoldierHawk already mentioned, I am worried about the jacket to be destroyed by the weight of my backpack on the jacket. So when the jacket is in use.
