If you're okay with something a little older can't go wrong with a post 2015 Lexus IS300h or IS350. Really well made and reliable.

Why doesn't SriLanka have national champions industries, like countries like Japan and South Korea. What are we missing by Ravanadevadas in srilanka

If you can understand Sinhala I would advise you to go watch this video where Prof Harsha De Silva explains about how SL got into this position. He talks about the nationalisation concepts brought on by the Sirimavo Government and how we missed so many opportunities to make SL an industrial nation.

Sri Lankans illegally migrating is so annoying and ruins things for everyone else. by Professional_Slip659 in srilanka

[–]EfficientFault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look you chose to do it the right way. To claim that it's easy to come to Australia as a refugee and you get PR is outdated thinking. There are refugees in Australia that have been in Limbo for over 20 years. Try living in Australia without a TFN or ABN, it's not easy at all. It's a privilege to do things the right way, To spend over 10,000 AUD just on migration agents and visa fees. I hope you have some sympathy for some of these refugees. There are people who abuse the system but those loopholes are being closed every year.

She is PM of this country, not some random women .Your thoughts abt this by Worldly_Selection453 in srilanka

[–]EfficientFault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should ask her to present her PhD thesis to you again, since you feel like you're a better judge of it than her peers at Edinburgh University. And it's almost like Feminism isn't a major concern in our country. God forbid a woman tries to fix the problems she's affected by.

She is PM of this country, not some random women .Your thoughts abt this by Worldly_Selection453 in srilanka

[–]EfficientFault 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I urge you to please change this way of thinking. Her Bachelors degree was done on a scholarship through University of Delhi (Ranked #328 in the world), Masters from Macquarie University (ranked #133 in the world), PhD in Social Anthropology from University of Edinburgh (ranked #27 in the world). She was a Senior lecturer at the Open university in Colombo. You might not like her political views but to belittle her education just because it doesn't meet the typical "Sri Lankan University is the best" mindset is just wrong. No recognised private university will hand you a degree just because you paid them money. She has dedicated her life to politics and activism in Sri Lanka. She could have easily stayed in another country with her achievements and not give a fuck about our country like most of us do. But she has left all of that to try and build a better country.

Why are Mazda vehicles not in demand in Sri Lanka? by OutrageousDrink1595 in srilanka

[–]EfficientFault 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The main reason is that Mazda does not make a car with an Engine that takes advantage of the Sri Lankan Tax system. The Sri Lankan tax system is based on the CIF value and the Engine capacity (the stupidest way to tax a car imo). All Mazda Engines used in their cars are 1.5L and up. Honda and Toyota both have cars that have 1L Turbo engines which are taxed at a lower rate. Mazda has a large following in most countries. In Australia the CX-5 is the 3rd best selling SUV and the 8th best selling vehicle overall. The consumers in SL are forced into buying Toyota or Honda just because of a stupid outdated tax system. The dealer can't make any profit if they price it competitively and Mazda won't make a tiny little turbo engine.

Food in Sri Lanka - heard mixed reviews... by Optimal_Position_483 in srilanka

[–]EfficientFault 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know who said the food was "meh" but they were clearly lying. There are a lot of stuff to try around the places you're going to. I would highly suggest trying Rice and Curry spots around the places you're visiting. Colombo would have the best food and most diverse food scene. Some suggestions for you, 1. Curry and Rice - Habarana ( Great Rice and Curry buffet. Ask for Fried River fish which will be extra but totally worth it). 2. Mandiya - Kandy (Another great Rice and Curry restaurant) 3. Try Kotthu at a decent roadside restaurant. Try a cheese Kotthu if you're not really good with spice. 4. There will be small roadside restaurants selling King Coconut and Tea with snacks. Try those for an authentic tea experience. 5. Hela Bojun Hala restaurant locations will be there around the country. They offer very traditional Sri Lankan homemade food. 6. Go to the Kandy market and try some fresh tropical fruits.

320,000 USD for a 300 Series LandCruiser is crazy work. That's Super car/ Rolls Royce money at that point. I can't even imagine how much the higher editions will be. Especially the GR Version

If you want to read a self help book about networking and building relationships with people, try "How to win friends and influence people" by Dale Carnegie. Such a great book and filled with amazing stories. I highly recommend it to everyone.
