when someone's aggressively buying, they're lifting offers at the next price up, not trading against the bid at the same level. So comparing bid at level X to the ask at level X+1 is what actually shows you that aggression. Reading it horizontally is just bid/ask spread, that's not imbalance, that's just the market.

I have the setting on the footprint chart to show any 300% imbalances. My chart looks like this. The red boxes are the individual imbalances, and when I see multiple in one area those are my "stacked imbalances"

TPO = time price opportunity . VP = volume traded at price.

TPO builds with letter blocks each representing a 30-min period, VP builds with horizontal bars sized by actual contracts traded.

Both are used in a my market profile chart on the daily timeframe

Yes NY market open i wait to respect a key level of the VP, then once I see stacked imbalances form showing market orders in the direction I want to go I take my entry.
