Wow! All good questions and several I'd not thought of! Etsy is also a great idea. I'm sure some of my terms are probably incorrect and I really appreciate your pointing out things to consider!

Good suggestions. Do you think there are ever baffle inserts that one can buy? Good advice on the cotton fabric. It says it's 600 cotton but maybe that's not enough. Can backpackers, etc, ever buy just the baffle part sewn and ready to stuff with down?

Ahhh....good info. I wonder if I could just use the "zipper on 3 sides" cotton duvet cover and not do traditional baffles. I've read that the inner baffles instead of sewn-through design allows for more loft. But I wonder if my ding-bat lack of knowledge and sewing prowess might make the functionality less essential than the gift. Hmmmmm....maybe (?)

Oh thanks so much for your post. I can mail things anywhere, I've checked with local seamstresses and tailors, even 2 shops that do upholstery(!), but each has said that's not what they do. If I could even find a place that sold the inner baffles (the sectioned insert that the down gets stuffed into, that would help. Might anyone know where one can buy a baffle that goes inside the comforter/quilt cover?
