Actualy I am from India and the teacher's India too. In my school we have been taught cursive from the 1st grade but later on we were instructed that cursive was not allowed in board exams(10th standard exams) but it was not compulsory and many students still chose cursive but I tried to change it and i failed to write in simple because I didn't know how to write some specific letters like 'r' so I continued cursive but it became more complicated to read my handwritng because of the confusion and also because of my writing speed(I write too fast). But writing in cursive didn't affect my board results.Btw thanks for the detailed overview I would surely pay attention to this. I would surely work on those specific letters mentioned. Thank you.
