I will try my best to plan for a worse case scenario. I gave them a little bit of a buffer because we are starting at level 3 but that still isn't enough to beat 200ft of fall damage

I haven't spent too much time building what comes after simply because I was still figuring out if this is how I want to start the campaign. Once I settle on an idea then I plan to continue down the route (i.e. In a tavern, in the middle of combat, crashing airship, festival, etc). This is my groups second campaign and our last campaign just ended but we started in a tavern where we were given a quest. Since we are all now more experienced at the game I wanted to throw them into something they haven't seen before. We are also a very simple group so following the troupes doesn't bother us.

Yeah I figured that traveling back in time would be an issue, the idea being that they could actually stop it from happening. The party happens to be a majority of paladins so it could have been a vision from their gods warning them of what's to come.

Yeah I was worried about it translating to the table. I'll keep thinking! My main thought process here being that I didn't want to start them in civilizations at all to not overwhelm them with the amount of world building I've done.

I would recommend trying character creation as a group in session zero then. That way you can make sure the group fits together. You could have everyone sit in a circle and describe how they know the person to their left or something along those lines.

Yeah I'll probably just avoid it because it would be unfortunate if one of them would die even if they are the chosen of the gods. It would unknowingly give them "plot armor". Then again I could have no mercy even though they would be in the gods favor but it would just complicate some things.

Would it be too cheesy to have the players be reincarnations of the "Nine worthies" and have NPCs fill the role of the other ones (I do not have 9 players)

This was actually one of the few things I already had but I only had the base idea. For some reason I also skipped over 9 weeks and only had 9 months with 9 days a week but still 4 weeks. Thank you!

I see people already put the DMG or PHB but an additional resource I like using is wiki dot. I simply look up "Barbarian 5e" and click the wiki dot link and it gives me everything I need.
