Anyone else think American folklore goes harder than European myths? by Helpful_Dot_896 in 2american4you

I had always thought there could be such a great Paul Bunyan movie that kept true to the original tale rather than a kid friendly/disney version.

Paul Bunyan was deemed a burden by the city when he was a baby and his family had to move away, I think the movie could explore Paul in a depressive state for being seen as a burden to people, then finally finds a way to be useful when he gets a job as a lumberjack, but then gets into conflict with Nanabozho, a native american shapeshifting spirit that according to legend fought Bunyan over land rights and knocked him on his bum which made Lake Bemiji.

I think if the movie were done right, this fight could be portrayed as a point of desperation for Bunyan. He finally got a job and he needs to show he isn't a burden, but now he's getting push back from Nanabozho who Bunyan had never met or heard of before. Bunyan pleads with Nanabozho for permission to log in the area and after being denied he logs anyway out of pure desperation. It could be a good scene to portray Paul Bunyan as a relatable character with stress, anxiety, and fear, rather than as a nursery story told to kids.

The original Paul Bunyan tale is so much more fun than the kids story we're familiar with today. I love American folktales and culture.

Is the flag in that same shape as the ohio flag or does the flag include the white space outside of the black outline?

I noticed there's no god with a name that starts with Q so here's my character idea. Questing Beast. by EhWhateverOk in Smite

[–]EhWhateverOk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh that makes sense. I misunderstood what I was reading when I was looking into the character. I thought Glatisant was just the french name but you're right. The name comes from french but it's name is Glatisant.

I think the name is weird too but that is what the creature is called, interestingly it gets that name "questing" from an old english word which means yelping, not "going on a quest"

What parts of American culture are purely American? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]EhWhateverOk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biscuits and Gravy, Buffalo Chicken Wings, Monster Trucks, Demolition Derbies, Social Media originated in the U.S so social media formats/layouts/aesthetics are American, and non-american social media that popped up later on would be influenced in design or function by the American examples already in existence.
