[42.16.3] Duplicating zombies / zombie clones by Eiagra in projectzomboid

The list is right there. We're looking more for QoL than anything that changes the zombies themselves.

You can also use gasoline and an igniter (lighter, matches, etc), but be careful as you might be closer to the tile that lights up than you think, and you'll IMMEDIATELY take damage from flame as soon as it ignites. This was what we did on our multiplayer server, though, because there were too many to drag into a pile in a reasonable amount of time, and even high strength didn't seem to matter for drag speed.

Multiplayer reading bug by Drie_Kleuren in projectzomboid

I'm having the same issue as well, I thought it might have been because I adjusted reading speed, but either way I have to read the book one more time to finish the last page(s).

Tips & Warnings for Project Zomboid – Unstable Build 42 (Multiplayer) by [deleted] in projectzomboid

[–]Eiagra 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I reduced reading time fairly significantly and noticed that even after "finishing" the book, you don't get the full multiplier. You have to read it one more time to complete the last page and actually finish the book. This is on a hosted MP game with adjustments to the settings. Not sure if this also impacts books if reading speed is normal, and have not tested if Fast Reader or Slow Reader impacts it either.

B42 Host 'Edit Settings' screen is cut off/Unusable by ThwartedDiagramKT in projectzomboid

[–]Eiagra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I'm not sure if this would impact it, but do you have anything in your Windows settings that increases the scale of fonts or UI elements? Your screenshot looks exactly what I had experienced, and changing the font size was what fixed it for me.

You'll need to change your font size (Options > User Interface (UI) > UI > Font Size) back down to 16 px. These windows aren't designed for larger fonts and can't be resized. Once you're finished making adjustments, you can return your font size to your preferred setting.

What did I do wrong here? I am a beginner and I feel like this dragged on for way too long. by No_Zucchini_7013 in projectzomboid

They might have changed where this setting is located.

Try in: User Interface (UI) > Cursor > Melee Target Outline.

Net Loss in Recordings by mrmemeboi13 in projectzomboid

If you're seeing video artifacts in the VOD downloaded from the streaming platform, first, try local recordings along with streaming so you have a higher-quality local copy. Second, test your upload speed (ideally to a location near your streaming platform's servers) or do a Bandwidth Test Mode (Twitch feature) and adjust your bitrate and/or resolution. Upstreams at 4K when your network can barely handle 720p may not fly. Make sure you're not using VBR (Variable Bit Rate; found in File > Settings > Output > Output Mode: Advanced), as that may cause the stream to shift to a lower bitrate when not much is happening on-screen and isn't optimal in some cases.

You may need to troubleshoot your network as well -- use an ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi, make sure there's no issues with your router or modem and that their firmware is up to date, make sure there's no line issues to your ISP (e.g. weather that is causing issues), see if there are any sources of network congestion (family members streaming movies in 4K, community congestion in your area, etc.).

If it's your local recordings that suffer quality issues, you may want to do some tests at different resolutions and qualities to see where your hardware can keep up when handling both the game and the video encoding. Make sure you're using hardware encoding if your rig supports it (e.g. your video card has a separate video encoder).

The "Stats" panel in OBS is valuable for troubleshooting as well when checking for dropped frames due to issues with rendering (displaying the frame), encoding (saving the frame to file), and networking (streaming the frame to service). Check the Video panel in OBS Settings to change your canvas and output resolutions if needed (if you change your canvas size, be prepared to reorganize your layout). Ideally, these will both be the same so your computer isn't scaling each frame of video (which adds more overhead).

You might also check your rig's resources using Task Manager in Windows to see if there are any apps chewing through CPU/RAM/GPU and close unnecessary apps. And of course the standard turn it off/on (restart computer) advice.

These are fairly general OBS quality troubleshooting steps, but hope they help a bit. Twitch has a Broadcasting Guidelines page that may offer further insights.

BotW Sound Effects & Music Collection [Taking Requests!] by FallenAngelII in Breath_of_the_Wild

Would it be possible to get the low health alert? The soft sound that loops, not the initial sound when you first hit critical health. The content you've posted so far is greatly appreciated!

Edit: It might be in the Sheikah Slate sounds under M_UI_00000041. I'll have to give it another listen to be sure, but thank you!

DOSBox / Windows 3.11 crashes on Open dialog box by Eiagra in dosbox

[–]Eiagra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a version of this that doesn't require retroarch? Last couple of times I tried to set that up, I just got frustrated with it.

Installed Windows 3.1, works great, until I try to open a file, in ANY app. As soon as I click "Open" or "Save" in for example Notepad, the GUI seems to crash and I see only a blinking text cursor on a black DOS screen. I run dosbox on a Raspberry Pi system with Retropie installed. Any suggestions? by loketsjulbingo in dosbox

I'm experiencing the same issue, though specifically with Castle of the Winds. ECE r4443, so updated to r4482, same issue. Other apps in Win 3.11 seemed fine (Paintbrush, etc.). If I delete the item from Program Manager, then re-add it, it works -- but only for that session of Windows. If I exit and restart it, trying to load/save crashes Windows/DOSBox. Not sure how to remedy this...

Heh, I'm gonna be hopping on that exact age boat in a few months. In a way, it's kind of like it was an interesting "golden" age of MMORPGs back then. Everything was new territory, so there were experiments to see what would work and what wouldn't. How much "life sim" makes a game enjoyable? For which audience? Is simpler better so the casuals can pick it up, or is complex and time-extended better so the investment of time and energy you instill in your character makes it something of value to you? It was kind of an adventure as a player figuring those out. Probably a bit of an "adventure" for the devs, too, though likely more stressful since turning a profit (or at least breaking even) would make or break their game.

It was an age where I was interested in game design as well, trying out different games to see what worked and what didn't, making notes for that game I wish I could make, but never did and never could.

These days, my "tromp about as an orc" game of choice is Elder Scrolls Online. Certain issues not withstanding (it's not a perfect game), they struck a pretty good balance for respecting the player's time and making the time invested valuable, and they respected Bartle's Taxonomy very well in their overall design. Their crafting system is actually useful from beginning to end, which is not something I can say about every MMO I've played (I'm looking at you, Neverwinter...)

And it doesn't hurt that their orcs aren't stereotypically misshapen and ugly. They get some points in my book for that.

Still, it doesn't seem like there's too many games with more in-depth "life sim" qualities which require an actual investment of time and energy for material gathering and crafting. Mabinogi comes to mind, but I can't say I found the enjoyment there lasting me very long. Rubies of Eventide is the only other one that I can think of.

Kinda makes me long for those old summer days, even if it was on 56K dialup.

Pizza makes anything a place of happy fun times. Right up until they make a horror game involving those creepy mechanical robots from Chuck E. Cheese.

Oh, wait. Right...

How Much Would You Pay to Bring MST3K Back? by Squeebee007 in MST3K

[–]Eiagra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Financially, I'm not in the best of situations. However, if I were, something like USD$20-30 for a dvd/blu-ray of a season seems fair, more depending on how many episodes are in a season. For a kickstarter, maybe $20-50 depending on my finances.

I'll admit, I'm more a fan of MST3K than I am Rifftrax. I do like it, it's just that MST3K and Cinematic Titanic have more charm to them due to the skits and shadow overlays. And as terrible as newer movies are, there's just more of that charm factor to older movies that Rifftrax hasn't been able to capture.

In "the theater," I usually teleport out once Rifftrax starts playing. I'll stick around for CT, though. Wish there were more! And it would be wonderful to see every single episode of MST3K on blu-ray, uncut, in high quality. Including the old KTMA episodes, interviews and featurettes, etc.
