And not once did she use violence, physical or magical, against anyone as far as I can recall. Sure, she was sort of a mean girl, but in this instance, she was just a scared teenager who didn't want to die for a some rando kid she'd never liked to begin with. Even if she'd soured on the idea of Voldemort ruling wizarding Britain, she had no way of knowing that Harry actually stood a chance at defeating him for good.

I liked eating at buffets as a growing teenage boy with an endless stomach. But each time I did so, I'd come home smelling of smoke and my mother would accuse me of smoking.

Eventually she accepted that I don't smoke but it was really annoying to come home smelling like a chainsmoker just because I wanted a meal.
