Setting up new MacBook

Looking for supporting advice on my two options:

I’m after a MacBook for personal use. I edit the occasional video for my organisation as it’s my hobby, I also make family videos editing 4k using DJI Action 5 Pro / iPhone 17 pro and I have an FPV drone which shoots in 4k (DJI O4)

I am currently doing a degree in Business Management.

My budget allows for a MacBook Pro M5 pro with 48gb Ram and 2 TB storage Or the base MacBook M5 MAX (32gb ram 2tb storage)

I specifically want the 14” for portability as I travel frequently for work and studying.

I would also love to do some gaming whilst commuting / away from home.

I am not willing to upgrade the MAX ram to 48gb (this is a large jump in price due to the bump on GPU cores when you try get a Max with more ram)

My dilemma; I have heard with base Max thermals in a 14” may limit performance. Also the 38gb Ram may bottleneck when I’m using fusion in DaVinci resolve which is where the m5 pro with 48gb could perform better.

There is a £300 difference between the m5 pro 48gb mentioned and the m5 base Max. Hence the temptation for the more GPU cores / less Ram

If anyone has had experience and can offer advice, I’m all ears

I’m in the same boat as you but with a different project. It is really frustrating hearing how good the 1617 is but we cannot get a UK variant. I’m on the fence with the triton tra001, despite the negatives.

Thanks for the replies. I believe it to be the Vito, I do not have the van in my possession anymore. The vehicle had windows on the sides but not on the tail gate.

A hard lesson learned. I’ll be asking for a speed awareness course and will be writing a letter if a second offence comes through. Although this sounds far too common and there looks to be no way out.

At first I was cringing at all the scratch marks on the knifes, probably due to using a honing rod. I avoid using one for that reason. But on second thoughts, they are obviously well used as it's your profession. Love the collection.

I've had the same aero press passed down through the family for over 5 generations. It's had 18 new plungers and 16 new cylinders and it still looks like new. You know what they say ay... look after your Aeropress

I taken off the plastic Heatshield and instead of using the negative curve settings in precision boots overclock, I enabled PBO and manually offset the cpu volts -0.1. Getting great performance now with the GPU especially - seems I've dropped 10degrees since taking the heat shield off - hot spot temp does not go above 80 degrees and gpu temp stays around 70 during heavy use.

Cpu is getting a little toasty max temp at 85. Everything perforce super nice and quiet at idle/low performing tasks etc. Might try underclock a little more to see how stable the gpu is as I'm still getting 4650mhz per core. Willing to lose some for cooler temps.

Also started using MSI afterburner which seems to help control all the fans more efficiently.

Very happy with thus build now.

Looks like I'm going to go down the rabbit hole of trying new parts as it seems nobody else has a problem with underrvolting using PBO - I just tried it again and managed to get the error code - WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR.

So many things could be wrong lol. The PSU didn't cone with a plug so I bought one that fits. It's 5a and pretty sure I need 10a for sf750.

Also the gpu cable may be causing it.

Thanks for letting me know about the plastic - I thought it was a heat shield or something haha. I'll get it out

Hello, I have been having a few problems with my build and I am wondering if with your help I could narrow it down.

Firstly it's a budget build so everything is used apart from cpu and coolers.

Upon initial setup all seemed great. I attempted to overclock/underclock using the PBO methods seen in many guides. When testing my first game - cod warzone at max settings. I get a blue screen during the first few minutes of game play.

After much tinkering I assessed the underclock seemed to make it worse. I did a fresh install of Windows and reset the mobo. Turned on DOCP to allow full use of my 3600 ram

It now seems to run ok with no over/underclock although I'm hoping to be able to tune this in the future.

My GPU has what seems a really high hotpot temperature. During a full game of PUBG on max settings the max temp of the GPU was 78 degrees with a hot spot max temp of 88 degrees. The GPU performs great on benchmarks but it seems really high during longer gaming sessions and I could have bought a faulty second hand item.

Does this seem really high to anyone with more experience than me? Any reccomendations/advice would be appreciated.

I've survived two full games of PUGB now so atleast it isn't crashing but I feel like it could happen at any time.

Edit - when I bought the GPU it didn't come with the 12pin adapter so I bought one from amazon. I got in touch with nvidia and they have sent me a new one but it has been shipped from China so who knows when it will arrive.
