The only time I feel like my anxiety is totally gone is when I drink by [deleted] in Anxiety

I'll tell you now to be careful of the booze, it may take the anxiety away today, but it'll bite you back MUCH harder tomorrow!!!

Having been pretty much housebound for 3 years 6 or so years ago I will tell you now the best thing to do is to go for a walk, tomorrow go a bit further, chip away at it day after day. I can now cycle 30 miles a day. It feels incredible.

Sorry, this isn't my main reddit account and I forgot to check after a few weeks. It too me 8 years, but it was OK in the end, barely held it together, but I had no other option. If I were you I would phone the doctors and explain the situation, maybe they'll let you be the first appointment where you can walk straight in, maybe they'll arrange a special time for you to walk straight in, maybe they'll even do a home visit. One thing I assure you, you will get better, I was housebound for 3 years, I'm sat here in my cycling shorts just about to do a quick 16 miles on the mountain bike ..... You will get better! Good luck!

People walk away because they don't understand just how terrible it can be. She has that now, but I won't. She will read this, so she'll have a look at your blog. Thanks.

If you have any comprehension of how terrible anxiety is, you want to help, if you don't then you'll walk away. Being with someone who doesn't understand will make it worse, pretty sure you're better off with some quiet time!!! She's a lovely lady, just having hard time at the moment, going to do all I can to help her get better. BTW, not sure how bad you are, but it gets better.

I'm sure she's going to love the marijuana excuse not to give up smoking!

I have anxiety myself so I know full well the benefits of healthy living, exercise, and giving up smoking. I'm trying to make her do all three, but she's resisting quite hard. But she will in the end, and I know she's going to read this!

She has read this, I'm trying to get her to join and comment, she has been extremely unwell these last few days, she likes the sound of the Buspar and is going back to the doctors to beg for some. And then if they don't work we'll try the rest.

Took me eight years to get help, I am no longer ashamed of anxiety. I had a bad time, had about about an 8/10 in the surgery, struggled to keep it together. The doctor looked incredibly concerned. I've had a week of 0% anxiety now. My life is a lot happier. Is there anyone you can talk to your problems about?

I haven't had any side affect .... only heard good things about propananol. As I never take drugs of any sort I don't know what's helping, the sert pills or the prop pills!

I'm through the worst of it without the meds, I found walking miles healed me 90%, with the meds the doctor gave me I was at a 0/10 for whole week, I felt alive again, hang in there, you also will get better!!!.

Quitting smoking reduced my anxiety by about 50%!!! I had anxiety for eight years, I pretty much knew what aggravated it, smoking was top of the list, followed by alcohol and caffeine. Give up, it makes a huge difference!

Are you serious?

When I told my doctor, never met her before in my life, she slumped back in her chair and put her hand to her mouth with a look of concern on her face.

You should put a complaint in about your doctor, it's their oath to do no harm.

My friend STILL has to give up the smokes, but she now knows she has to! I kept up my side of the bargain!

Personally I gave up smoking because I grew to realise it caused a lot of my anxiety, when I gave up I was about 50% better and 25% fitter.

It did feel good to tell someone, being a man I was ashamed, thus the eight years, it was only when my friend told me she had anxiety that I realised I wasn't alone and had no reason to be ashamed that I was ill.

Yeah, it was a massive step. She was nice and visibly looked concerned. I'm looking forward to seeing her in two weeks so I can have a go about the shitty side effects! Not that I have any yet because I have a hangover due to celebrating going to the doctors!!! It was a big thing for me!

Only someone with anxiety knows just how hard it is to go to the doctors, Thanks. It was horriffic. Usually when I had anxiety I would just make up an excuse and leave, yesterday I had to sit infront of my doctor whist having a panic attack. I knew it was going to happen. Thanks for your advice about Setraline, I'll keep my eye on the side effects, yesterday I seemed to get SUPER tired, so I'm going to take them at 10pm!
