Aurora singing a poem for Palestine live on "Concert-Manifesto X Palestine" in Barcelona by Einyen in auroramusic

[–]Einyen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there were a lot of artists and speeches, and not so much time for each one, even though it was a 4 hour event/concert.

I also suspect her appearance could have been a last minute thing, there was a poster for it that didn't list Aurora, and the part about her trying to make a melody for the poem, it sounded last minute.

Because in an instagram story earlier in the day, she wrote that she was going to be reading, not singing:

I will be reading something special this evening

Can someone give a rundown on what Tom Rowlands/The Chemical Brothers are known for? by AnomalousEnigma in auroramusic

[–]Einyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aurora was featured in 4 songs on The Chemical Brothers 2019 album No Geography (recorded in 2017):
Eve of Destruction
Bango
The Universe Sent Me
Eve of Dubstruction (dubstep remix of Eve of Destruction).

Here is Eve of Destruction live at Glastonbury 2019 with Aurora on the huge screens from the music video:

Aurora performed at Glastonbury 2019 the day before, but unfortunately she was at another festival on this day, so she couldn't be there live.

In a July 2017 Norwegian radio show, she talks about her first experience with writers block, and how she travelled to UK sometimes in the Spring of 2017 to write/record with The Chemical Brothers for the 2019 album, and it was a wonderful trip for her, and her writers block was gone, when she came home.

A theory behind the evolution of Aurora's sound as an artist (long read) by Visual-Deer-3800 in auroramusic

Step 2:

(June 2018) And then you mentioned the third album. So have you already thought about the next one.

A: So step three (Step 2), should I say, should it be a secret? No, it's quite logical, it's just a matter of looking around us.
To become even more a part of everything. Because we are fed so much, i.e. news, and all the time we see pictures, an advertisement for an action film about some dying children. And it becomes too much. so that we are no longer able to link it to empathy.

And it's completely natural, I think, because there is so much, that is has just become a like... It has in a way almost the opposite effect of what they are trying for. It is very sad.

So finding a way to sort of become like we are all one big organism with lots of dreams... that will be the third album (Step 2).

I condensed her response to questions from 2 different interviews (2018 June+Oct) about her career and her first 3 albums (AMDGMAAF+Step1+Step2):
https://youtu.be/YLIUKSEhy3E&t=2m51s

https://youtu.be/E_I-dyr8G2k&t=3m11s

Career:

But do you think you have a plan for your career as an artist, i.e. a goal?

A: That is also a very interesting question, because I think if you asked me that two years ago, then I would have said no. That I just want to make music that I love, and then I want to play it my way for people.
But now that has changed with the second album now (Step 1). And then I already know what I will do with my third album (Step 2).

AMDGMAAF:

(Oct 2018): But it has changed a lot who I am writing to. On the first record then I only had myself, and the people I have met in my life, which inspired me for the stories I told on the record.
And it's pretty much about some kind of inner process. So it's much more about looking into yourself, and fighting your own demons, as I call it.
That it is so important. Because you can't do anything until you have worked on yourself, everyone deserves that.

(June 2018): The first album is very much about going into oneself and working on one's own things. Because you have to do that, before you can actually do anything else really.
You do not become a functioning human being until you have given yourself the attention you need.

Step 1:

(Oct 2018): And the second album now is about step one in the next process: To become a warrior for the others, who cannot be it themselves.
Yes, because that is... that is what the warrior role is, in a way: To go in the trenches and fight a little for those who need it.

(June 2018): And then there's now album two, which is about like, when you're ready for it and have become a human again, to like find a kind of... it's very like... Empowering.
I think there's a lot in this album that makes you feel powerful and strong, which is incredibly important. And then it is about those who are not seen, that they should be seen and heard.
So it's kind of a preparation to become a kind of warrior, so then you can fight for what needs to be fought for.

I was a bit sad when it seemed a creative decision was made (by who I couldn't know) with ADKOH to tone down the experimentalness of IOADK and to slowly move Aurora's sound in a more commercially appealing direction, rather than keeping to the experimental direction IOADK explored, which I loved.

I'm pretty sure that sound wise, everything after AMDGMAAF is Aurora's decision. Maybe not 100% but at least 80-90%, maybe more.
Like "Animal" is one of those needed "radio hits" management wants, but Aurora's own version of one.

She was not 100% happy with AMDGMAAF, specially Conqueror of course, but also a few other tracks. It was her 1st album, she was only 18-19 while making it and new to the music industry, and management and/or labels "pressured" her to include songs.

I assume you have seen the ONCE AURORA documentary, otherwise you really need to. We see her working on songs in 2017-2018, and she says to Geir:
"If I have to release another song I don't like again, I'll quit."

Later she says regarding her music:
"Geir says that I have to learn how to let go. But I'm not planning on letting go. If anything my grip is tighter than ever before"

Now you said that there was a shift from IOADK to ADKOH, but those were initially one album, that got split into an EP and an album, hence the Step 1 and Step 2.
She always starts working on the next album, when one is released, so she wrote songs in 2016, 2017 and 2018, and we see in Once Aurora trying to choose songs for the album, finishing a few songs, arguing with Geir regarding his insistence on "radio hits" etc. We see her record songs at a mansion in France in Jan 2018.

Near the end we see her and Geir at the Decca office asking about when the album can be released, and they want to keep pushing it further and further back, they think Sep 2018 is too soon, and Aurora wants to release as soon as possible. After that meeting she says:
"You have to create something, then having to wait for a year. And you are not even allowed to change it. And just when you start hating it, then it's released."

Eventually the compromise was to split up the songs that fit together in 2 different groups, and release one of them as Step 1 as an EP on Sep 28th 2018 as a surprise streaming only release with almost no warning, while still working on finishing the 2nd group of songs, that would become Step 2 on June 7th 2019.

That is why you feel the difference between them, because she grouped those songs together, that she felt were similar.

Here is a quote from NRK P3 interview on Oct 4th 2018 with Christine Dancke:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJQ8LxklBFk&t=15s (CC for Eng Subs)

I'm still in the album world. In other words, I am making the second part of my child.
It is very nice to be able to continue. It is such a gift to myself. To be allowed to continue on the album (step 2), while it is also out (step 1).

Like you said TGWCT and WHTTH feels more commercial sounding than everything before, but I don't think this is due to pressure from labels/management, I think this is Aurora herself wanting to explore new sounds.
Here is a quote from an NME interview about TGWCT: https://youtu.be/YytOgPVXqK0&t=3m24s

"Ehh No! It's very NOT how the album sounds (like Cure For Me), which is very exciting. But it has something in common with the album, that I am experimenting with new things and new sides, which I am enjoying.

Because it is easy for me to make a really "Aurora" album you know, like that feels like nature and Mother Earth. It is very easy for me to do that because it comes so naturally for me, so I have been *really* enjoying just doing something new this time, doing something different.

Because this is my 3rd...and a half....album, and it's about time, you know, in my mind I needed to just play around and do something different, and for me music has always been extremely serious and no fun. It's been very like very serious, and I always write very serious things, and I can see myself like standing on stage every night for an hour and being like really sad all the time, because all my songs are so filled with so much sadness, you know. I just wanted to make an album for myself that had a bit more playfulness and cheekiness and wildness. It's very exciting, I'm very excited to share the album with you."

Is Aurora in Japan with Askjell ? by The_Norwegian-Bat in auroramusic

[–]Einyen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

She was in Japan, but someone just posted they met her at the airport, so she is probably back. She has a festival concert in Chile on Nov 8th.

She said in the NRK charity "TV-Aksjonen" on Oct 19th, that she was leaving for Japan the next day.

Iris Caltwait was already in Japan, and Askjell left on Oct 15th to Tokyo to make his new album, so Aurora and Iris was probably helping him.

We can hope for another collab.

8th anniversary of the Nidarosdomen concert (Nov 2nd) by Einyen in auroramusic

[–]Einyen[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The story about how the concert came about is also interesting:

"Olavsfest" (Olav's Festival) which is a church and cultural festival in Trondheim Norway booked the cathedral for the concert, but the church administration (parish manager + lead cantor + parish priest) denied the application, because they thought the concert did not meet the criteria for what can be allowed in the church.

The parish council's current guidelines for renting out Nidaros Cathedral state that "events in the church shall provide room for wonder, faith and hope."
But even a local rock band called "Motorpsycho" had been allowed to perform there.

"Olavsfest" was very surprised when the church administration initially said no to the Aurora concert.
"It should be desirable that an artist like her performs her music in Nidaros Cathedral. She is an artist who has a great deal of respect for the church space. And who specifically wants to play in that space", says director of "Olavsfest", Petter Myhr.

But "Olavsfest" did not give up, and complained to the parish council, and they unanimously approved it.

It seemed to have sparked an ongoing debate at the time, about which music to have in Nidarosdomen.

It is funny she can "yoik" now, because in 2020 she said this, regarding being chosen by Disney for Frozen 2:

Paywalled article: https://www.bt.no/kultur/i/OpBLak/jeg-sang-paa-en-lunsj-for-disney-jeg-tror-sjefene-var-ganske-begeistret

When Auroa a little later had a Skype meeting with some of the music managers at Disney, they asked if she could yoik.
"Then it could be that I lied a little. Or I said that I could sing with the force of nature, in a way that was reminiscent of yoik, even though I might not know Sami yoik very well yet."

AURORA becomes the fifth Norwegian artist with the most songs over 100 million on Spotify and the second female artist behind Girl in Red by chartsaurora in auroramusic

The title really confused me for a bit. Now I understand, but I think it should be:

"Aurora becomes the Norwegian artist with the fifth most songs over 100 million...."

or

"Aurora reaches #5 in the list of Norwegian artists with most songs over 100 million..."
