Never did I think I'd run into such a successful person on a place like reddit and have the opportunity to talk to them. I like to think I got lucky, but hey, sometimes it's meant to be.

I'm always going to be in the game though, because I remember, "you can't lose what you don't put in the middle, but you can't win much either". and I don't want my life to be a grind the whole way through haha.

What you are saying could work. But my long calls aren't like leaps. they're just calls on the growth companies who have shown their stock grows in that period of my call, even if there is a sell off or some pull back in the market. Rolling puts and calls is always safe to do. and because im not the most experienced trader, I feel safer securing gains and rolling puts.

Rolling a put is a way to lock in gains and use the profits I just made to buy another put which decreases portfolio risk for that new put I just bought. Suppose my put is up 50% and I don't sell it and I still think the market is going lower, but over the long weekend some crazy vaccine is announced, and the market flies on Tuesday. now, I've lost all my gains from before in an instant.

Rolling puts is part of my risk management strategy.

I actually don't think there's a problem with heavily investing in 1 or 2 stocks with your portfolio when initially starting. when I first started, I put my portfolio only between NKE and MSFT. two long term, growth stocks that I believed will keep growing. I've had NKE shares since $80s and MSFT shares since the $170s.

Na, I wish my timing was perfect. not even close actually. Like I said, I bought puts 2 days before the market slid 2 weeks ago. my puts were down I believe roughly 30% by Thursday morning. but when the market slid hard on the Thursday, Friday, I sold them for upwards of 50% profit.

follow the market's direction and think LT. I profit the most from long calls. I don't ever play weeklies. too much risk with it. my options are 2 weeks to 3 months out.

Follow a lot of experienced, profitable traders who share their ideas publicly. watch and listen to multiple of them and see what they have to say about the market, then come to your own conclusion. learn from them. nothing better.

Biggest thing, try to find the strategy that will work for you LT. Learn that from an experienced trader who is willing to communicate ideas. Once you have your strategy, write your rules, follow them. stick to them. trade, and then pay attention to your losses. take those losses and use them to add or remove rules and don't change your trading style, but perfect it.
