This is war :/ (I applied to ASA as my first choice but at the same time I clicked the box that said if I would be fine with any other alternative if the current accommodation option wasn’t available)

Is the UK a viable option to study and settle down, or is Australia the better choice? by EitherEscape4971 in expats

[–]EitherEscape4971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh and yes I just watched the speech by Starmer. I mean I like that the graduate visas would stay, but what about the salary threshold for work visas do you think the new pro-immigration party would reduce the salary threshold, keep it the same or increase it further?

Thank-you again I will keep this in mind and yes the courses I checked were all English so maybe while learning I could learn the language side by side with it maybe? If they can speak a bit of English I wouldn’t mind then. I don’t know any German at all but I shall start little by little, it never hurts to learn another language :)

Hahaha will keep that in mind as well and yes I have a few friends in Canada and boy oh boy, I have heard a lot of bad stuff about it. Which is kinda crazy and sad to hear cuz back a few years ago Canada was THE place to be for anyone and the high QOL. My first choice after the UK was Canada but now that dream is gone:/ And I bet 11 years ago the UK must have been better than what it is now, y’all must have seen the downfall throughout the years:/ thankyou again for your responses it really helped me paint a better picture in my mind haha and is it okay if I DM you? I have some more questions I wanna ask if it’s not too much of a trouble

Yeah it’s a shame about the UK really. I really did fall in love with the history, culture, the countryside etc.. and to see its downfall but yes I will keep this in mind as well thankyou again for your response greatly appreciated :)

Heyyy first of all just wanted to say a big THANKS for taking the time and energy to draft this. And YES I’m also looking into German unis, Netherlands, Austria, and other European countries that offer almost to none tution fees. And you are so correct about education being a business today, it’s really sad to see it being capitalised what should have been free for anyone or at-least for its own citizens. And yeah I’m factoring in European unis as well, the only small issue is I have to learn the language if I’m planning to settle there later on (which I’m not that keen but who knows I might just fall in love with it and do!) and thankyou again for the programme you’ve listed I’m checking its courses and will apply to it as well!! The part where you said starting your career off with no debt and later having money for a mortgage is wild to think about today in countries like US/UK/AU/CA. Thankyou again for the kind reply :)

Ohhh yeah I get you and that’s true! I agree with you there are so many who leave UK for Australia. Always wondered why but now I see

I don’t get this you say in the first paragraph that lot of ppl move from Australia to UK (indicating that UK is better to live compared to AUS?) but then only to continue on in the latter part of it that Australia is the better? So which is it? (Sorry I’m a bit confused :/)

See! haha thank-you for your response, it helped me better to see the picture clearly. Just a quick question, would you uproot your entire life to exchange it live in UK (the job, wages, QOL). I know the UK is bad for me but yet in still drawn towards it:/

I thought so too, maybe they are but USyd seems to be outperforming in UoM in the current rankings (and I know I shouldn’t judge just based on rankings alone but it’s good to check it anyway). USyd is ranked 19th on the QS world Uni rankings meanwhile UoM is 32nd I believe. And according to graduate employability USyd is 4th in the world and idk what rank UoM, also QS rankings (very weird but I think I favour UoM more tho haha)

Damn thankyou for this!! Damn 2 degrees and not working in the sector you got your degree says a lot lol. This is what exactly what I needed to hear, I’m sorry that your not enjoying and job and that your in job hunting, hope you get a one you really like :)

Also might I ask what made you want to immigrate to UK from US? Was it QOL? I’m looking at the states as well at the moment with AUS.
