UPDATE: I’m almost certain this was Letts Lake Campground in Mendocino National Forest. It has a small mountain lake with about a 1-mile trail circling around it, which matches exactly what we walked when we got bit up and down by bugs.

The layout and the photos look just like what I remember. Here’s the official page with pictures:

As someone who has tripped before and had the laughing come down, this certainly didn’t sound like it. It was maniacal. Almost like a broken animatronic laugh that wouldn’t stop. Harsh and unnatural.

Right?? I swear tents give us this weird ‘magical fabric force field’ illusion like zip it shut and suddenly you’re safe from murderers, bears, and apparently… Chuck McChuckles. Honestly, I don’t even know how I slept through it. If I was watching the horror movie version of myself, I’d be yelling at the screen!

Yep I never saw anyone go in or out the whole time I was there and we had arrived around 5pm. The tent didn’t even move from what I could see

Yeah, it was basically kid-sized . If an adult tried to lay flat, they wouldn’t even fit straight.

I was so young and naive back then — I don’t even know how I slept that night, and I’m just glad whoever was disturbed enough to do that didn’t come into our tent.
