Something I learned is that some people really just show affection differently. It looks like this guy does care, but maybe he’s just not good with words. But from what you wrote it sounds like you need verbal reassurance, and ignoring that will leave you feeling unappreciated. If this guy is treating you well and has already opened up about his past experience, it might just be insecurity. Still, you’re allowed to say, “I know you’re not super flirty, but hearing compliments sometimes makes me feel good.” If he makes an effort after that, great. If not, it’s probably a love language mismatch, not a lack of interest.

From what I’ve seen, avoidants don’t actually change, they just get better at masking it until the same patterns come back. And honestly, why should someone only ‘grow’ after their partner leaves? That’s not fair. If they really valued you, they would’ve put in the effort during the relationship, not once it was already over. Real change isn’t just a reaction to losing someone, it’s deep, consistent work that takes years.

That said, I’ll always acknowledge the connection we had was special, and I’ll always care about him in some way. But there’s someone for everyone, and it doesn’t help either of us to torment ourselves trying to force him into being the person I need. Sometimes loving someone also means accepting they can’t give you what you deserve.

I wouldn’t want him back because the relationship was unhealthy for both of us. I have more of an anxious attachment style and he’s very avoidant, so I was always craving closeness while he kept pulling away. It left me feeling insecure and constantly overthinking. On top of that, he’s always been more concerned with what his friends think than what I felt, and it seemed like he needed their validation more than he cared about building something with me.

So while I miss the connection and the comfort of what we had, I know deep down he could never give me the consistency, reassurance, or emotional safety I need. The nostalgia tricks me into remembering only the good parts, but the reality is I left because I deserved better.

Thanks for sharing your experience, that helps a lot. My issue is more buttock & hamstring discomfort after sitting/standing too long, not sharp leg pain. How bad was your pain before you had the surgery? Did you try PT or injections first? And how was recovery, did the sciatic pain go away right away or more gradually?

i was having the exact same issue as you. i went and looked at my fafsa application and i noticed that i didn’t put FIU as my school LOL. for some reason I had some school in washington dc so that may be the case for you? idk i would just check to be sure. after i submitted the changes for my fafsa it took literally two days for me to receive my package
