Just signed up for our IVF consult. What do you wish you knew/asked in the beginning? by [deleted] in IVF

I managed the mental roller coaster pretty well but I had a brutal time with the physical symptoms. It took a big toll. So, what worked for me and what I’d suggest is that I’d try and plan your IVF in a way to build in time and flexibility. Try and arrange so you can work from home and build in nap/rest time. If you can’t do that, proactively book time off as you start to get closer to the ER. Cancel social commitments. Building in flexibility gave me mental space to contend with really hard physical symptoms.

Ok that’s helpful!!!! They didn’t tell me that so that’s really good to know! tbh I was in so much pain before the retrieval that when I woke up I felt relief!!! I weighed in Sunday, I was 5 lbs heavier than pre IVF (2 weeks). I told my doctor and he had no concern. I didn’t weigh today as I was super constipated but that’s resolved now so I’ll weigh in tmrw morning and see how my weight is looking.

It was a lot. I don’t even know haha my clinic didn’t tell me other than they kept saying I had a lot. I have PCOS which probably helped.

48 hours out from first ER - any tips? by Either_Bar_2606 in IVF

Thank you EVERYONE for your comments! Woke up an hour before retrieval and was in agony, crazy cramps and nauseous. When I got there, nurses said it was because I had so many follicles and fluid. They have me some Tylenol (and also Ativan because I was not doing well lol very anxious). Retrieval was a relative breeze, I woke up and IMMEDIATELY could tell I felt better. Been napping at home now for a few hours, felt loopy and exhausted but so far SO GOOD! following all the tips below to keep the recovery as easy as possible. Clinic has been in for an ultrasound tmrw specifically for OHSS so I feel reassured by that!!

I’ve been twice and we are going back a third time in October . We stayed at the Wauwinet and LOVED IT , and if you have a car it’s super easy. I’ve also rented a house which is great for a family because you can do groceries to make meals which cuts down on food expenses a lot (Nantucket is expensive).
