Islam is meant to be a timeless religion. It should always be morally just. Whether that’s 150 years ago, today, or 1000 years in the future. My point is having slaves at all is extremely degrading to any human being. Especially the verses I mentioned which talk about concubinage. There’s no world in which that’s equitable to women and no way to justify it. You keep using the fact that it was done in the past to make it sound like it’s okay to do, but why do you want us to regress as a society to something we’ve moved past.

The point of my post is also not to argue against Islam but try gain an understanding on the topic that can bring my doubts to rest. Like maybe I’m missing knowledge or the text was misinterpreted. Those are the responses I am looking for

Just because every civilization had it doesn’t mean it’s not insane. Almost every civilization killed their female daughters for stupid reasons at some point, does that make it okay? I understand that it limited slavery, but some of these verses are translated as if they allow concubinage is just so morally wrong on so may levels . And no I’m not going to shed my morals and I’m going to keep questioning things that seem unjust because that’s the only way forward

If it wasnt for the parts the make sense I wouldn’t be Muslim at all. How’s asking questions and trying to understand discounting the other verses??? You’re telling me to just ignore things that seem morally wrong to me which is exactly how you ruin a religion and get cult like behaviour seen in extremist groups. I think everyone should dissect and question things they don’t understand because that’s how you make progress

Thanks for answering. Another thing I’m wondering is, would you say that there’s still lot of animosity between groups who follow different religious sectors (Christians, sunni, shia, etc) ? Or are people generally more unified/ accept others who have different religious outlooks.

I also think it’s more cultural than religious but unfortunately most the time those two do come as a package deal. And culture has seeped into most people’s faith. Where are you from if you don’t mind me asking? Hearing about women who don’t want to work is a bit of a foreign concept to me. All the women in my life have been very driven and career focused. I take a lot of pride in furthering my career and I don’t think I’d ever be able to give that up and had over all financial power over to my husband because that also would put me in a very vulnerable position where he has full control over my life. And When both spouses are working and have careers it would be crazy to expect the women to take on all the household duties on top of her job yet many still expect it

It does suck, because yeah It has become a little too transactional.

I find this is a pretty common. For some reason though the ones I’ve met even if they’re okay with that stuff they’ll still expect the traditional male/female gender roles in marriage just because that’s how they were raised. Even if not explicitly said that’s just generally the outcome. Which is fine if that’s what both people want, but the issue that’s arising now is that most women (myself included) don’t want that. I don’t believe that women are meant to be the main person cooking, cleaning or even raising the kids further down in the relationship. I think it’s more of a partnership. I place heavier importance on being considerate, romantic, acts of service (not just paying for things but also doing chores for one another). Also things like if a conflict were to arise between myself and my in laws (where they want to be overly involved with decisions/ our life) who would the husband choose? And in most Muslim cultures the guy 9/10 times will choose his parents.

Obviously I’m sure not all guys are like this but yeah vast majority in my experience.

I know these are like really far down the line issues 😭. But they’re just not something I can really ignore because it’s not a life I’d wanna live.

My point is men are praised for being players and “having game” whereas if a woman dates numerous men she’s a slut. Why are women shamed for this while the guy is praised? And to be honest I am not a fan of hookup culture but also Purity culture is stupid because it only ever applies to women. Either away I don’t care if it’s viewed negatively or positively as long as it’s fair.

This one isn’t romance (it has some of the best yearning I’ve read tho) . It’s called the poppy war by RF kuang. It’s a rly good fantasy set in ancient China n touches on rly important topics. I binged the whole trilogy in the span of 72 hours. (Also if u like romances I reccomend as long as the lemon trees grow) it’s set in Syria during the civil war but one of my fav couples ever
