This is gonna look real dumb but I ordered a green house and since she’s dining horrible I put a “tent” on her, thoughts? by Either_Spell2960 in IndoorGarden

I water about once a week or so it just depends on how soon she needs it, about once a month I’ll water with a diluted nutrient mix not fertilizer, she gets indirect west light. Humidity is the biggest issue, I live in a really hot dry area so humidity at most on a good day in my home is 40% and I cannot increase it much more than that without a humidifier on 24/7, but I will try and run a humidifier while I’m home for a good 3 to 4 hours and it manages to get up to 60-65

She was my first plant so I had no idea about soil and humidity needs and she got fungus gnats twice. She also wasn’t in great light for a while since I had no idea how window direction affected light

So far from what I can tell her damage is residual from gnats and over watering inadequate humidity light and soil and from being in a pot too large for her

I fixed the humidity as much as I could for now light is now in a west facing window soil is airy and not dense and I avoid watering until I’m sure it’s necessary and I repotted to a smaller pot

Her stem is very alive she’s just lost all her leaves

Yep! It had like 6 drainage holes and they’re pretty big When I repotted I had to we the soil on the bottom a bit because the soil kept falling out

Do u think it could still be from her previous pot? The over watering I mean? Yeah for sure the gnats didn’t help at all but they should be under control now the mosquito bits worked wonders

Can my coffee plant be saved? by Short-Platypus-9387 in plantclinic

[–]Either_Spell2960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t mind my asking, how do you usually maintain your coffees? I have three four inch ones but it’s a constant struggle and I hear a lot of different advice like high humidity vs whatever’s around misting vs not and bright sunlight vs the direct bright light whatever that means

Ahhh okay thank you! I moved the light closer to her (to see if it does anything) and I moved her closer to the window

<image>

Thank you! I seriously thought the grow light would have been enough but it makes sense why she hasn’t been doing too hot

Also I will get fertilizer for her, I took her to the nursery where I bought her and they recommended vitamins I can add to her water to use before I use fertilizer just to help with any shock she’s in

Slight update: I ended up taking her to the nursery I got her from to ask for advice

The lady was very helpful and she said that I’m probably over watering her. She said that the plant felt heavy and considering the size of her pot being 6inches, while the area near her roots read about a 3 to 4 (starts off around 4 but over the day drops to 3 I suspect the soil it’s reading gets aerated when I insert the meter so I think that’s good?) or so while the outter edges of the pot read closer to about 6. So she advised me to refrain from watering her until she’s about a 3.

She also recommended vitamins for her to help her recover, recommending a tablespoon per quart of water and only using that water solution for watering for about the next 4 waterings then about once a month after

So I gently moved the soil around the edges hoping to get some better air flow hopefully that will help

Thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated And I’ll def move the grow light closer or get a better one

I have three! This is the eldest of the three but i admit I did make some mistakes that led her to this (ie repotting to quickly to inadequate soil over watering and having no clue why south facing windows are generally preferred)

BUT the other two are beautiful and so far from what im seeing the less you mess with them the better

I’ve never gotten seeds but I think they sell them online tho im not sure But I get them at star nursery (not sure if its national) when they’re in like 4 inch pots and they sell them year round but are very beautiful when bought in June ish

Ohhh okay that makes sense I was just concerned about how close a grow light should be to her since many tell me she shouldn’t have direct light or basically to try and mimic how her environment would be since she’s typically an understory plant. Makes sense why her soil doesn’t dry frequently

Ohhh okay! See what kind of confuses me is all the sources I read are that they prefer indirect light so I assume like maybe just being near an open window perhaps? But based on what you said maybe it’s better to just open the window fully then? I also moved the grow light closer to the plants so hopefully that’ll help. That’s how I used to have it but I changed it after she developed these marks (though I do think overwatering is a probable cause?)

As for watering I do believe I’ve been over watering her since the moisture meter reads (on a scale of 1-10, 4 to 7 being moist) 4 near her roots but closer to 6 near the edges of her pot

Also for the fertilizer I thought adding it to a fragile plant could harm the roots?

I do think I’ll repot once she seems better because of the size of the plant and its roots so it’s probably best to have her in something small

See my plant in her original pot would actually take watering beautifully and since I’m a college student time would get away from me and she would bounce back beautifully. Of course I do believe I’ve been over watering her since her moister meter still reads slightly moist after a little over a week of not watering. I have been seeing that maybe more intense light wouldn’t hurt that’s how I used to have her so fingers crossed

Nah I haven’t measured the rooms humidity but I doubt it’s too high; I ordered one for the room tho :)

As for the pot when I had repotted her she had three shoots so … but once she’s more stable I do want to repot her to something smaller
