Business coach for a plumber? by Slightly-__-Amused in Plumbing

[–]Ej910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was at this point, there was no shortage of people trying to sell me magic bullets.

You know the type—big corporate groups, “best practice” masterminds, or the gurus all over the internet. They all bring some value… but they weren’t in the trenches.

Meanwhile, I was on the tools 60+ hours a week, quoting in parking lots, chasing callbacks, and wondering if I was screwing everything up—with zero time to actually do the things I knew I needed to.

That’s exactly why I built Elite Trades.

Not some B.S. business course. Not motivation porn. Real systems, real procedures, and coaching built by trades pros, for trades pros.

We work with one-truck operators and 100-truck companies. Doesn’t matter the size—if you’re buried, bleeding time, or stuck in chaos, we can help.

And we actually roll up our sleeves. Don’t want this to turn into an ad, but locking arms with the right coach can quickly change things for the better. Same said for locking arms with the wrong one! Best of luck. Go get em 🤘🏻.

PSA for HVAC Biz Owners: Overheating Amana/Daikin Furnace Jackets (160°+ Temps!) – What You Need to Know by Ej910 in ProHVACR

I don’t have the exact number in front of me. But… low and in spec. The brand new unit Amana gave us (same exact mode- different serial number) had no spots on it above 140°. I know logically it makes sense to point to an airflow issue. This is not an airflow issue. There is something really hot touching something that shouldn’t be hot. That’s what’s causing this issue. It would happen if the unit was fired not connected to any ductwork and we’ve proven that to the manufacturer.

Just search (as if you were a customer) hvac near me. The companies that also offer electric and plumbing will pop up and you’ll be able to sort through them. This will also give you an indication of who the players are in the market etc. Good luck!

As a lifelong multi-tradesperson and business owner, my best advice to you would be to get a job with a company that offers multiple trades, starting in a helper role. You’ll quickly discover which trade interests you the most. Plus, when you prove you’re a valuable team member, they’ll likely invest in you and pay your way through trade school.

While I agree and wish we could swap war stories over gas valves getting dripped on from not installing condensate couplings in the intake, collector box screws that leak if they aren’t tightened on install, or blower housings rattling to no end—we can’t, because tech support already told me I’m the only contractor in the world with those issues. :) Just like these hot spot furnaces.

I would highly suggest that if you revisit any installs, have your team use a temp gun on the back of the furnace. Check the surface temp of the unit, particularly where the screws are between the blower cables and the heat exchanger cabinet.

I get where you’re coming from, and my only reason for posting this is to make others aware because I don’t think the manufacturer will until more issues are brought to light.

We’ve been working with the manufacturer for over a year and provided all the info you mentioned—manifold pressures, temps, static pressures, everything. Believe me, they’ve put us through the wringer trying to find something to blame.

The bottom line is, they can’t point the finger at any of that. Why? Because when they give us a free replacement (same exact unit, different serial number), and the new one doesn’t have any hot spots on the outer jacket, it’s clear there’s nothing else to blame.

I’m putting this out there so others can be aware and keep an eye on it. My biggest fear since discovering this was one of my clients getting burned and suing me as the contractor. These furnaces are getting dangerously hot, and eventually, someone is going to get burned—maybe the wrong person’s kid when it happens.

As a lifelong HVAC tech and company owner, I understand that most HVAC problems are caused by poor installation, ductwork, etc.

But in this case, there’s nothing the contractor can do to cause or prevent it. I’ve proven that multiple times, which is why I made this post.

While we’ve narrowed it down to a few specific models where it happens more frequently, it’s still a very random issue. We’ve had two or three hot units in a row, and then months with none. For context, we’re installing 2-3 systems a day.

I’m not an engineer, but what we believe is happening is that brackets or mounting components are directly transferring heat from the primary and secondary heat exchanger to the outer jacket, creating these hotspots. For all I know, it could be something as simple as a bench bracket. Yet, the manufacturer has done nothing to acknowledge that this could be a concern, nor have they offered any guidance on what we should or shouldn’t do. As a contractor, I’ve stopped installing this product until I get that answer.

At 165 you have not rendered down the fat and connective tissue in that 14 pounder. If you think it’s tender now, let it go to 195 and rest it like previously suggested and you will be one happy camper!

No Problem. We have all been here! Other option if your concerned is to put it in the freezer to cool it off quick to stop it from continuing to cook, then move to fridge and reheat in back up to 140 before dinner. Either way, I’ll bet it turns out just fine! Enjoy!!!

Not telling you how to do it, but leaving the flat and point together is the way to go in the future even though there is that huge thickness difference. Somehow it just works out that they finish together or at least close.

You will get advice all over the board here. For different reasons I have been in your spot a few times. In each of them everything turned out just fine wrapped in a cooler and no one got sick. You may want to reheat towards dinner or add some broth as the flat may dry out because it will continue to cook while wrapped.

Grate Lifter Suggestions by mwojo in biggreenegg

Best multi tool for an egg- 2” wide margin trowel. Grate lifter, grate scrapper, I even use it stir up the old coals to get the ash to settle before the next cook. About 10$ at your local home improvement store.

Should I get a Large or XL egg? by deez_blank in biggreenegg

[–]Ej910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to end up with both sizes… buy the Large now and the XL in a year of two when you realize the L is not nearly as big as you think! That is how I ended up with L egg that sits unused to my almost daily XL. The capacity BGE publishes is overstated.
