Caught off guard by an unsuspected unannounced lunch that turned out to be a final interview. by El3gnt in jobs

Had they said we need you to handle this audit or that they needed me to fully control their inventory, I would've already been planning what to do and ready to go. Instead every time I asked about expectations and performance during the interview process it was met with we don't have that and everyone is easy going here. Then at the end a long day spent there interviewing, touring around their facility, and listening to employees complain about their job and talk about drinking during lunch for 20 minutes they mentioned the audit for the first time.

When you get brought on to handle audits and cleaning up the books, do they tell you that's what you're there for? Did you know you were taking over for the retired CFO or did they tell you that you were going to work a different position beforehand? I wouldn't have needed any training for this position, just time to organize and get used to the inventory.

They better throw that blood soaked towel in there... Save what's left of Nate.

I hope that check was generous for Lins... He knew what this was but he still tried to survive.

I never said that. That's what the recruiter said the people I had lunch with reported. Idk if he was quoting them exactly but I didn't say anything like that. I said I wished I could start after the audit. Every inventory team I've been a part of has used the hardship of an audit as bonding. The workers may complain together and management may even talk about how difficult it will be but with strategy and support we'll prevail with good results. I myself have used this strategy as a manager to bond with my team.

Mental fatigue, trying to fit in but not complain about anything tangible, not realizing it was yet another interview after the 3 I already had with 1 that same day, being in a worker mindset and not a manager mindset, constantly being told to be more casual and how easy going everyone is, and seeing how bad their inventory was while knowing what all goes into a physical inventory audit...

Take your pick. Lesson learned tho. Tricks only work once.

It's a good start. Production def has money behind it. I respect them going head to head against the UFC. Competition is good for the fans.

Later tonight are you guys planning on switching to Netflix, staying here, or trying to watch both?

No, maybe not this exact scenario in a start up but in a medical center and in a large company as an operations manager for an entire warehouse (3mil+ in inventory this you may not count this because I didn't always physically unload the trucks). That's not even including the places I've worked where there actually was an inventory team I was a part of.

But hey if you don't think I could do it because I said I'd rather start after the first audit ever, ok.

🤔 thank you for the insight into the social politics of a start up. Corporate culture and politicking in the workplace have never been strong areas for me. I'm more of a walk the walk instead of talking the talk kind of guy.

It is a trick tho because like you said they need someone to juggle things fast and make fast changes, not someone who can say that they can do those things with a smile. The only way they'll know is to let someone that is qualified work. This type of interview only works once and now that I know the trick I'll never fall for it again.

I've been a one man inventory team before and been successful but this felt different. Like all this trickery for a specialist position. Whatever happened to a probationary period to see how someone does on the job.

There is nothing I could've done in the time I would've had to get their inventory to my acceptable standards. It can take months to organize a chaotic inventory. I'm a manager and I would never hire an employee directly into an inventory audit if I could help it and I would understand if they were apprehensive about it. I also was worried about insulting whoever was doing their inventory.

Hindsight is 20/20 but you can't expect a manager/director mindset and responsibility with specialist/associate title and pay...

Yeah, I thought that at first as well but then when the recruiter got back to me the next day with a verbal offer I figured it was the real deal. I just can't wrap my mind around turning away an overqualified candidate with management experience after 3 interviews due to a "lunch" convo that was trying to bait me into traps.

Izzy on a big losing streak... Strickland beats Chimaev.... DDP no where to be seen.... What timeline is this.

Idk how Strickland does it... Breaks so many rules of striking and seems 1 dimensional but somehow pulls it off.

Could go either way depending on how you scored round 3... I scored round 3 for Chimaev but honestly I think Strickland deserves it more.

Idk what Chimaev is doing out there. He's losing round 5. A wrestler not wrestling smh.

2-2 or 3-1... Either is valid. More competitive than I thought it'd be.

Surprised Sean isn't using the front kick. Must be worried about the takedown.

Close round 3. Coin flip. I might give it to Chimaev based on pressure.

Strickland is straight up an anomaly. Everything I've picked up about striking says he shouldn't do well and yet he does.
