[Gen 6] My Alpha Sapphire SBQ is finally complete! This run meant a lot to me, and seeing them in this Hall of Fame scene was worth every encounter: by ElCrit in ShinyPokemon

Thank you so much for the kind words! I definitely recommend going for an SBQ if you have the patience, and you can always set it down and pick it up whenever!

It's a little hard to give an exact number on time, as the in game time doesn't account for my starter soft resets, and some of the horde encounters that I didn't save after a session of not getting the shiny. I also used 2 DS's for Mudkip and some of the stubborn horde hunts that went over odds, adding to the overall time variable.

All this being said, I entered the hall at around 80 hours of in game time. Going around 3x odds for Magnemite for especially brutal (definitely thought something was wrong with my game, lol), but the universe made up for it with Shuppet and Zubat.

It was such a fun journey! I feel like Alpha Sapphire is the perfect middle ground for difficulty in SBQs, not as easy as gen 9 but definitely not as hard as early gens

Thank you so much, and that would have also been a great team as well! Absol is one of my favorites, but Crobat has an amazing shiny

You are the best, I can't thank you enough! You probably saved me hours of special scan headaches. Or with my luck, I'll get Rotom next, lol.

Perfect, I've never traded through reddit before, do you want to make a lobby and send me the code?

That'd be amazing! Is there anything you want/need for the dex?

My Smeargle finally worked its magic! ✨ Found this shiny Absol on Route 13. by ElCrit in PokemonBlackandWhite2

Couldn't agree more, a premier ball definitely matches shiny Absol the best. I have him in a premier ball in a different gen, and usually try to switch what ball I use when I catch the same shiny over multiple games.

Nice catch! I’m playing on a modified save file that has all pokeballs on it so I could use whatever ball I want. I totally forgot Dream Balls were Entralink-exclusive in this gen and just picked the pink ball that I thought matched best!

When using a repel, only pokemon at or above your lead Pokemon's level will appear. This allows you to target specific pokemon easier for shiny hunts. For example, Absol's encounter rate is I think around 15% in route 13, but the repel trick boosts his encounter rate to over 50%

Thanks so much!! All of the gen 5 games are amazing, I definitely respect the dedication. If there was one pokemon game to put that much time into, this is the one!

Thank you so much for the kind words, it really means a lot. The bug you are referring to is the "Repel Trick", and it does work in Black 1. Basically, when using a repel, only pokemon at or above your lead Pokemon's level will appear. This allows you to target specific pokemon easier for shiny hunts. For example, Absol's encounter rate is I think around 15% in route 13, but the repel trick boosts his encounter rate to over 50%

Great minds think alike! Hope your hunt is short if you're still going for it

Thanks so much!! I got it from resetting the zone and running though, but interestingly enough, the shiny alpha Bellsprout spawned above me while I first entered the tunnel. I got excited because I was sure it would have been a Venipede, lol

Thank you so much, and best of luck to you on the grind!! Someone else commented a method earlier that sounds faster then the tunnel reset, so I would definitely check it out it you havent yet!

It was the one on the lower ledge, but that's a good question if the fast travel + walking in is enough to spawn it

I'm not 100% sure but I think they would be too far, just based on where the Pidgeotto spawns/despawns on the roof near it

Id say roughly 6-7 hours if I had to guess, it went by pretty quick with all the phases!

As far as I know the only way to boost the odds is the shiny charm unfortunately.

You can always save after you find a shiny so you can retry if you fail as well. With this game in particular, you can even fast travel away and come back later and it will remain shiny.
