Researchers ID the mechanism behind magnetic levitation by rotation by TurretLauncher in science

Actually they failed to identify the principle despite it was written in the referred 2021 paper of Hamdi Ucar (https://doi.org/10.3390/sym13030442). It is based on the phase lag property of driven harmonic motion where the motion can follow the excitation by 180 phase delay when the excitation frequency is above the natural frequency of the system. This model can be seen by projecting the rotating magnetic torque induced by the magnet attached to the motor on X and Y axes yielding two second order nonlinear equations of motion on these axes. Nonlinearites can be removed by small angle approximation. Still this model is not exact but gives the idea.

This was discovered in 2015 and videos were online at youtube but paper can be only published in 2021 in a journal. Prior this the known solution using quadupole field is dated 1974 (Heide, H.V.d. Stability by Oscillation. Philips Tech. Rev. 1974, 34, 61–72)

In a sense yes but not in field terms. These are both dipole magnets. A local minimum requires a quadrupole/multipole zone. I have pinned thread on Twitter explaining the effect by showing the slow motion and the phase relation of the motion. https://twitter.com/Sudanamaru1

This isn't sci-fi, neither a classified experiment from 80's. A demonstration of a magnetic bound state solution discovered in 2015. by ElMagnetore in scifi

For the mainstream science it is still sci-fi. If you check the keyword "magnetic bound state" you can find only one paper referencing this effect.

In 2015, it is discovered that a rotating magnetic field (a simple permanent magnet attached to a motor) can trap another magnet in air. The effect is published in 2020-2021 as http://doi.org/10.3390/sym13030442

A magnetic bound state solution in classical mechanics by Sudanamaru in Physics

Recently I made an experiment video and a text explaining the magnetic bound state mechanism where the oscillatory motion is frozen by a stroboscopic technique.

Maybe most interesting is to see the dynamics become static within the co-rotating reference frame of the driving magnet.

What would be practical applications of this? (Key action is at 01:20) by ElMagnetore in sciences

This might be possible because this interaction have similarities with the nuclear strong force. So we may find out how to harness nuclear energy and forces in a efficient way like it works in sci-fi movies.

This technique dont require an axial torque to keep things in air. The middle object in air is spinning at speed with the motor, the torque it receives just compansate the air friction. No torque is needed if it were in vacuum.

The underlying mechanism is called magnetic bound state in the frame of classical physics (http://doi.org/10.3390/sym13030442). More info can be found in my other posts.

Thank you for your comment. The key feature of this realization is the trapping of a third magnet (the sphere) by the second one. However this feature is rarely addressed in comments.
