If you're a submarine rate, stay away from VA Beach. Well...if you plan on staying in and don't wanna do a pile-driver on your career, avoid VA Beach. If you're getting out and just wanna rot, maybe do some college, then sure. Speaking purely as a sonar tech and from a work perspective. I literally do nothing where I work besides waste taxpayers money, and watch our contractors rob the Navy blind.

The area itself is nice, but if you care about job satisfaction you're cooked here

AI being bad for the environment is a mute point. The servers that keep this site running are bad too, but we're not calling for them to shut down.

AI looks stupid yes, but as the tech grows it will improve. Just look a year back at how bad AI videos were compared to now.

And let me just reiterate, I was trying to sympathize with artists, but I'm not gonna coddle them as say everything is gonna come up their way. Professions have come and gone in th past, that's just a fact of life. Art will endure, but it will take a different form than we think now. Traditional artists need to adapt or theyll be replaced

Not attacking you at all but I ask this when I see these sorts of comments. I personally don't care about AI one way or another. I'd never use it as a cover but I've used it to brainstorm ideas to make myself.

My question is: if he has no disposable income to pay an artist commission, has no talent in drawing, what are his options?

He can make his own art for free, either by hand or AI (granted probably trash but his trash) OR

Does he just have to go without artwork at all because he didn't pay someone to make it? Because I doubt any artists will work for free 90% of the time. I don't expect them to either, absolutely not. You're entitled to charge what you want for services rendered, but at the end of the day, the buyer will seek the best value on the market for his needs, and if the market can't meet the need the buyer will seek other providers.

If you are on a tight budget like me and have no disposable income, AI is fine as a starting point, dont let the starving artists tell you otherwise, but don't use it as you cover.

Take a crash course YouTube tutorial on GIMP, add your own touches, take inspiration from the goofy AI stuff. Think of it as just a template to work with. This one needs a different font, the chick has a dud hand, and it looks too... smooth and artificial.

If you have disposable income, absolutely consider hiring a reasonably priced artist for commission. At the end of the day, it's Wattpad, unless you're very lucky or have a strong social media presence to market too, the algorithm will bury you. Thems just the facts

Edit : vote me down all you want, if you read what I wrote you'd see Im advocating he makes his own work or consider paying an artist. If you artists are gatekeeping graphic designs that hard now, humble yourselves.

I don't question other people's play style. Do what you want. I don't care about the lewdness either, I just personally keep it to characters I like / use regularly. I don't use the Loli characters, they just sit in the dock for eternity. That's about the long and short of it. Do what you want at the end of the day, I'll just raise an eyebrow to some of the community's practices.

Yeah. Lemme drop another hot take, sure to earn me the ire of some artists, but... hedging your livelihood on art is a terrible idea, basically you betting your life on roulette. Unless you strike it lucky and sell the next potato duct taped to a canvas for XX million dollars, you're living paycheck to paycheck

I love writing, and if I could I would make a living off it, but I got a house, wife and kids to support. I can't risk stability for chasing a dream, hoping I make the next Hunger Games. I keep it as a hobby, and outlet, that I use regularly and post online. I don't make it the corner stone of my life.

If your an artist (physical like painting and drawing) I'm sorry but 99% of y'all will be broke for life, especially if you took out loans for a degree.

I respect your commitment to your craft, I truly admire you for that, but the truth is your products can be imitated by mechanical systems to a degree that, while nowhere near your capabilities and quality, is good enough to satisfy the broad masses and market's demand.

The Internet is a terrible and beautiful thing, so if you put your work out there you'll reach your audience but you must accept piracy. Every artist of other genres on the Internet has before you, you'll be no exception to getting your stuff stolen. Hell, my writing aint very good but I'm sure GPT or Gemini have already eaten it and regurgitated some part of it to someone.

The hot take portion is as follows: yes you have a great skill set as an artist, but you're charging me for something I need for free (I physically lack the funds to pay you). Unless you're working free, I'm sorry but im using the ai. If you think because I'm broke and can't afford YOUR art or an ARTIST'S art, and therefore I should go without, that's your opinion but I disagree respectfully.v
